And She Got Up by Courtney Pray Duke (audiobook)

This audiobook was absolutely beautiful. Courtney Pray Duke narrating her own story made it even more powerful and personal. You can hear the emotion, the strength, and the faith in her voice in a way that only the author herself could deliver.

This is such a moving story of grief, love, hope, and most importantly, unwavering faith. It’s raw and honest, but also incredibly uplifting. Even in the heaviest moments, there is light. It’s the kind of story that stays with you long after you finish listening.

Honestly, just beautiful. A full five stars from me. 💛

And She Got Up by Courtney Pray Duke is a deeply moving and personal testimony of grief, faith, and restoration. Listening to the audiobook, narrated by the author herself, made the experience even more powerful, as her voice carries both raw emotion and steady hope, you truly feel like you are walking through each season beside her.

While I haven’t personally experienced this magnitude of loss, I still found myself deeply relating to her story and the seasons of grief she describes. It’s honest, vulnerable, and full of truth, gently pointing back to Jesus as our source of healing. A beautiful reminder that even in our lowest moments, God is near and still writing our redemption stories.

What I loved: The raw honesty and hearing the author’s own voice tell the story, it made it deeply personal and powerful.
What it stirred: A deeper compassion for others in grief and a reminder of God’s nearness in every season.
Who it’s for: Anyone walking through grief, supporting someone who is, or needing hope in hard seasons.

First time reader of this author. This is an emotional as well as deep book about grief, healing and finding hope again. It is a reflection of a 29yr wife, mother and faithful person who faces the most difficult time in her life. She loses the love of her life, father of her children to a horrible accident. It goes into the the story about her deep grief, her ability to have to find a way to go forward as well as how she finds the strength to continue. Additionally it goes into the section of finding and letting her faith heal her as well as embrace her to carry her forward. In the final chapters it discussions the hope to move forward and find happiness and possibly love again. It is a book of strength as well as faith and healing. I would recommend to people trying to find a way out of grief as well as leaning on your faith and God. Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for the opportunity.

I listened to this book on audio and it was so incredibly moving and personal. Just a chapter in and I started writing down verses Courtney was saying to revisit later. The way she applied the bible to the story to help you understand was just so good. You could also hear the emotions in Courtney’s voice. It was a real emotional read. Her testimony of finding the strength to keep going and keep holding onto the faith during the tragic loss of her husband, the way that grief shaped her faith and then healed her is just so powerful. I think her story, the message to get up and keep going, can be applied to many other hardships. I truly loved this book and I think it’s a great book to read or recommend to some going through grief or hard seasons.

This book was gut wrenching. Anyone that has the pleasure of marrying their best friend will feel the depth of Courtney’s story. To age with your significant other is such a privilege that not everyone gets to experience. “And She Got Up” was a perfect title for this book. I don’t know how you move on from something like this. You will always have a scar from a loss like this, but Courtney described the experience in a beautiful way. Her faith was inspiring as she demonstrated grace through a pain to this magnitude and how to move on from this. 1 Timothy 6:7 was a well placed verse through her grieving.

Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of this book.

I did the audiobook version of this book and was so glad because it’s narrated by the author. As someone who lost someone so important to me and struggled with just going from one day to the next, this book hit home for me in more than one way. Loved the vulnerability and her faith that God had more in store for her.

Courtney Pray Duke pens a book that will definitely light a fire under you to get closer to God. She suffered a loss at young age and God pulled her through it to continue her journey in His light. At first glance, it may seem like it just a book for people who have gone through grief but everyone can gleam some wisdom from this book. I was able to experience this book in an audio format courtesy of NetGalley as an advance reader.

I was so incredibly encouraged by Courtney’s story. Not because of her resilience or strength but in the way she pointed to Jesus at every corner. Throughout reading this book I found myself waking up earlier than usual eager to read my Bible and ensure I was treasuring God’s word in my heart. Tragedy tries to claim stories, but Jesus knows tragedy well and He’s good at turning stories. Blown away!
