Pregnancy and becoming a mom is hard enough on its own, without the additional stress of figuring out how it will affect your career and navigating potentially vulnerable situations in the workplace. This is an incredible guide on everything from the actual legal rights and how to map out what’s available to you and also scripts for having those conversations with HR.

In addition to being an incredible resource, Daphne’s anecdotes and voice are hilarious!! I bought a hard copy to be able to reference easily, and also recommend the audiobook, which she narrates!

Definitely will be a go to gift for all the professional mamas in my life!

Let me preface all of this by saying that I wish this book was unnecessary, and that we actually had maternity leave in the US (and actual social safety nets for people, including parents, families, and children) like almost every country in the world, because it’s the right thing to do, but also because it leads to better outcomes for our entire society, including better physical health, mental health, economic, interpersonal, and broader societal outcomes. If we had these very, very, basic things, we in the United States would not have to equip ourselves for battle to actually get the meager rights we do have.

But I digress.

If you are potentially pregnant, pregnant, postpartum, or know someone who is, could be, or has been pregnant, including anyone who might employ said pregnant or potentially pregnant person - you need to read this book. Ms. Delvaux is the hero that we all need.

I was absolutely thrilled to get to read this book as an ARC – I am a big fan of Ms. Delvaux’s Instagram presence, and at some point I bought one of her materials which can actually be a bit price-prohibitive, so I was thrilled to learn that she wrote a book. This is the resource that everyone can access. It also, in addition to helping you navigate a deliberately confusing system, is a balm that any parent needs – your big sister who gets all of the big and small challenges of early parenthood and is here to hold your hand and get you through this precious but very challenging time.

In short – this book has explicit, clear information to help you access your rights as a working parent, as well as many extremely helpful advice to navigate some challenges of early parenthood.

I have selected this book as Stevo's Business Book of the Week for the week of 3/22, as it stands heads above other recently published books on this topic.
