Beth is fed up with dating.
Sam doesn’t date.
So why are they creating a dating app together…?

After a failed marriage and a string of strikeout dates, Beth is starting to think she’s not cut out for a forever love. Then she meets Sam.
Sam has an uncanny knack for matchmaking his friends into long-term relationships. Now they’ve challenged him to turn his skill into code - a dating app with a difference. It all seems ridiculous… until he’s introduced to Beth.

Beth’s job in venture capital, and her dating experience, are ideal. Plus, she desperately needs a fruitful client project, or her job is on the line.
Sam clearly has the matchmaking skill and the coding knowledge to make this app a success. Not only that, maybe he’ll find her a Mr Right?

When they start double dating for project research, Beth falls hard. There’s just one Sam, an incurable romantic, has his heart set on a Paris meet-cute destiny, and won’t consider anyone else.
However, when they decide to fake date as part of the app’s marketing plan, it’s clear to everyone that they belong together.

But if Sam can’t see that Beth is his perfect partner, he’s failed the ultimate matchmaking test, and the app is doomed.
Can she change his mind, save the project, and secure them both an Appy Ever After?

Appy Ever After is a laugh-out-loud, closed door romcom full of chemistry but no spice.

Writing romcoms is my happy place. After working in other genres for many years, I couldn’t resist the pull towards comedy and romance.

I have a soft spot for stories with strong women, nice guys, and a touch of the bittersweet. I like the connection between my protagonists to be more than physical – a bond that helps solve their problems. Often I shine a light on mental health issues, especially neurodiversity, which is close to my heart.

My novels - including those yet to come - are dual POV stories, sweet rather than spicy, and often put a twist on genre staples whilst being centred on relatable relationships and situations.

Fundamentally, I try to write the books I like to read – those with wit, heart and intelligence.

I’m inspired by the big and small screen as well as books, and have a soft spot for Richard Curtis’ romcoms, timeless TV comedy like The Good Life and Blackadder, less well-known feelgood films and romances (Always, Forget Paris, Roxanne), and newer, brilliantly observed or scripted shows (Colin From Accounts, Dinosaur). Books which make me laugh include Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine, The Rosie Project, Cat Lady, and The Hating Game.

Away from the writing desk, I enjoy great scenery, a relaxing train ride, delicious coffee and cake, and catching up with friends and fellow authors.

My debut novel, “Floored”, was published on 4th April 2024. This is the first in a trilogy of interconnected standalones.
My second book, “Match Daze”, a sports romcom, arrived on 10th October 2024. This will begin another trilogy.
1st May 2025 saw the publication of “Wicket Maiden”, a genre defining rom-com set in the world of women’s cricket.

Chrissie Harrison is a pen name.

My parallel writing career spans three decades. I’ve written over a dozen books in a handful of genres, and had a number of theatrical scripts professionally performed.

I was lucky enough to beta read this book.

Appy Ever After is a fake dating romcom with lots of flirty banter.

Beth is on the hunt for love, but the apps are letting her down. Sam is against using apps to find love; he has a dream of meeting his perfect woman in Paris, but in the meantime, he’s busy setting his friends up with their perfect matches. After an introduction, Beth and Sam begin work on the Appy Ever After app, a groundbreaking new dating app that will harness Sam’s matchmaking skills.

As they work together, Beth finds her feelings are growing, but Sam is adamant that his perfect woman can’t be Beth because they didn’t meet in Paris. Emotions become confused as they agree to fake date.

It’s all for the app, isn’t it?

My Opinion

Appy Ever After is a fun romcom. Chrissie Harrison has written a charming novel with some great characters and an intriguing premise. A fast paced novel that I would highly recommend.

First, I want to thank Chrissie Harrison, Rachel’s Random Resources, and Valericain Press for providing me with this book so I can bring you this review.

I was drawn to the cute cover design by Alex Allden who was spot on with the design and the adorable name of the book Appy Ever After! With just the cover and title alone I needed to see what the book was about! So glad that I did.

Ohh Appy Ever After by Chrissie Harrison was the perfect fun read to escape reality from for a few hours! Being single for way too long and on these dreaded dating apps I could not help but crack up laughing at this book. Yeah, there were some scenarios in the book that I could totally relate to! If you want a fun filled fast paced read that will have you smiling I would give this a try.

I totally agreed with Beth on if love was a numbers game then I too was fed up with counting lol. These apps are brutal man as she clearly shows you in the book!

I loved how two people unlucky in love on a dating site came together to create their own dating site. This was definitely a fun read that should be added to your tbr.

4.5 ⭐️ Appy Ever After takes everything I love about fake dating and enemies-to-lovers-adjacent tropes and gives them a fun, modern twist. The setup is just too good: Sam’s a hopeless romantic and total coding genius who’s basically the best matchmaker ever… except he can’t seem to find his own perfect match. The irony? Chef’s kiss.

Beth, on the other hand, is a no-nonsense, career-focused VC who needs a win, and watching her clash (and spark) with Sam, the dreamer who believes in Paris-style meet-cute destinies, is so entertaining. Their “research” double dates and fake-dating marketing plan had me grinning the whole way through. The banter, the tension, the slow burn, it all just works.

If you’re in the mood for a smart, charming romance with great chemistry, high stakes, and a touch of irony, Appy Ever After totally delivers. You’ll be rooting for Beth and Sam to find their happily (or should I say, Appy) ever after!

Beth and Sam are developing a dating app together. But will their matchmaking skills help them to find each other?

If you like rom coms then this is the book for. This was a really enjoyable and fun read. I would describe it as a slow burn romance but one that I was very much invested in as soon as I met Beth and Sam. The storyline included fake dating and a workplace romance, tropes which I love.

Beth and Sam were brilliant characters and it was hard not to like them straight away. When they are together there is this very noticeable friendly and flirty vibe between them. Its clear there is something between them but as soon as they start to get close to each other they pull away from each other.

I would describe Beth and Sam as opposite but also very similar. The one thing that they have in common is that they're both looking for love and the one. Beth goes with her gut instinct when it comes to people and dating whereas Sam is very logical and looks at statistics. Beth does fall for Sam first and in a big way. But she doesn’t act on how she feels because she knows that Sam will never look at her as anything other than his friend and business partner. Although Sam is very logical he has this idea in his head of his perfect woman and their perfect meet cute in Paris. The only issue is that no woman he has ever met has ever lived up to this scenario and his expectations. Although Sam is attracted to Beth he in some ways disregards her as someone he could love because he is wearing rose tinted glasses. But the more time that Sam spends with Beth he starts to see her in a different light. There were times when I wanted to reach into the book, shake Sam and tell him that what he was looking for was right in front of him.

While developing the dating app Sam and Beth start fake dating and it was interesting to see them in that environment because they appeared very much like a couple but maintained that they were just friends. Sam does have a little crisis of faith in the story about his matchmaking abilities. Sam has a knack for matching couples, but when one couple he has matched hit a bump in their relationship it knocks his confidence. It’s Beth who reassures him and helps him to get his confidence back.

I was cheering on Beth and Sam from the first page and the ending was everything I hoped it would be.
