Of Hollowed Stars

Rate this book

Captivating, addictive, and action-packed—Of Hollowed Stars draws readers back into an enchanted world where cursed bloodlines, scheming gods, and star-crossed bonds collide in a battle for the realm's very soul. Perfect for fans of Jennifer L. Armentrout, Carissa Broadbent, Raven Kennedy, and LJ Andrews.

Nightmares Echo.

When Gavrel vanishes into the twisted depths of the Nether Void, Seryn has no time to grieve. While dreams blur into nightmares and ancient power stirs within her, she unravels a prophecy rooted in her bloodline. Part demi-Ancient, part Nightshade, she may be the key to restoring—or destroying—the balance between realms.

Souls Align.

Though their souls are bound by a golden thread, even fate-woven ties can fray. With the Fates tightening their grip, Seryn and Gavrel face the truth of their bond: prophecy or choice, sacrifice or salvation. Together, they'll forge a path unwritten by the stars … and hope their love can endure the Void.

Stars Collide.

Across shifting nightmare-scapes and corrupted cities, Seryn must gather unlikely allies, awaken celestial magic, and confront the Ancient of Nightmares before the aether claims them. And in the chaos of colliding stars, she'll risk everything to save a world already slipping into the darkness beyond.

Don't miss the breathtaking finale of the first trilogy in the Fate of the Embered series—a spellbinding tale of passion, peril, and profound sacrifice—where only the fiercest hearts endure the price of destiny.

Rowyn Adelaide is an insatiable romance reader, advanced practice MSW social worker, and the author of the Fate of the Embered series. Her debut novel, Of Withering Dreams, launched the dark fantasy romance series with a haunting blend of passion and peril. Her work fuses atmospheric world-building with emotionally driven romance, often exploring themes of transformation, angst, and resilience. When she’s not writing or devouring stacks of romance novels, she’s usually globe-trotting, rocking out at concerts, counting down to spooky season, or singing karaoke (very poorly). She lives in the Midwest with her favorite creatures: her husband, their dog Audrey Shepburn (aka the goodest girl that ever lived), and their chaotic cat Stormy, who is equal parts villain and sidekick. Love this series. Dark, dreamy , fantasy with great action and world building to wrap up this book. There is a great found family aspect of this book with so many lovable , charming side characters that have such a role to play in this book. So many twists and turns. I really enjoy how unique this story is and the world building.

Thank you to Rowyn for entrusting me with an early copy!

Of Hollowed Stars by Rowyn Adelaide
Fate of the Embered book 3 (first trilogy complete in the series)
Release day 1/29!

Dark fantasy romance
Dual POV, found family, amazing female friendship, high stakes quest, nick name, heartbreaking pasts, twists and reveals, strong women, prophecies, fate vs choice, she saves him, meddling gods, some Greek mythology inspiration, mythical creatures, spicier spice, hilarious insults, he fell first, incredibly unique world building, hopeless bargains
Please do check the trigger warnings! The fantasy is dark, not the romance.

Dedication: For the ones stitched together with shadows and sheer will, who are frayed but still walk in like the main character. You're the plot twist. Keep going

Book three is the last of this first arc of the Fate of the Embered series and it did not disappoint! The action starts right back off where we left off with Seryn off on a quest to find her love! There is so much that happens and I was on the edge of my seat while our crew was tested over and over again! I love that Seryn and Gavrel together so much! We get a hard won minute of rest and peace at the end but there are still dangling threads that will be picked up in the next books! I'm so excited to get confirmation for who I think will be the main characters and see the story continue!!

I will say it again! I am obsessed with the world building that Rowyn Adelaide has created. The descriptions of every place had me hooked and invested in the world.

The story had me on the edge of my seat begging to know more and rooting for this makeshift group of a family. I love the relationship between the group of friends. I will not lie… I was a bit emotional reading the finale to this trilogy installment.

I can’t wait to see who the next collection of books may focus on! Will it be Kaden? I need to know more about this group and the world!

This book was such a perfect end to Gavrel and Seryn’s story. As always, Rowyn sets an amazing, beautifully descriptive scene, and keeps you on your toes through the whole story. I loved seeing Seryn’s struggles with believing in herself, and then her overcoming them. Plus, her and Gavrel’s relationship is just *chef’s kiss*. Marek really grew on me in this book, especially towards the end. I can’t wait to read more from the Fate of the Embered universe.

To repeat some of my earlier thoughts that held through the entire series, such an amazing story with well written and thought out world building. The entire world was intense and had well driven tension. I also appreciated the pacing with the beautiful sentences and wording. It was incredibly addictive. A really wonderful story, and the spice was spicing too. In this final book for Seryn and Gavrel, I loved the way they fought for each other, the world, and the strong found family vibes. I especially looked forward to Gavrel's povs. It was exciting and fun while still maintaining this dark world vibe. I am actually super eager to see what the next story by this author is going to be. The ending was such a clever way to leave it. More, please.

Of Hollowed Stars was the perfect payoff for everything Seryn and Gavrel have endured. These two have fought so hard—for each other and for their world - against the power-hungry Elders and Ancients who refused to loosen their grip. Every sacrifice, choice, and battle felt earned.

Seryn’s character growth was one of my favorite parts of this book. Watching her step fully into her power and become an absolute badass was the best. She’s fierce, determined, and her evolution was truly incredible. Gavrel completely stole my heart. His loyalty is unmatched—he would follow Seryn anywhere, no questions asked. His unwavering devotion paired with his broody nature was perfection.

The romance was everything I wanted: intense, emotional, and layered with longing. The tropes added so much depth to the story—star-crossed lovers, friends to lovers, he falls first, touch her & die, and a fierce FMC with a broody MMC? Yes, please & thank you. Add in monsters, magic, mythology, dream realms, and portals, and this world became so immersive.

Rowyn delivered on action, romance, and emotional stakes, and I couldn’t put OHS down. Of Hollowed Stars is an unforgettable conclusion that showcases love, resilience, and the strength it takes to fight for your future. I loved every page. ✨💫

This is my absolute favorite book in this series so far. Everything about Of Hollowed Stars felt sharp, intentional, and emotionally devastating in the best way. The prophecy, the action, the humour, the twists, and the pacing were all perfectly on point, and I was completely consumed by this story from the very first page. Rowyn Adelaide has such a talent for making you feel like you are living inside her world rather than just reading about it.

Seryn’s journey in this book was breathtaking. She is fierce, vulnerable, and heartbreakingly real, and I adored watching her grow into her power. As she says, “The darkness would not write my story. My broken pieces laid the foundation of who I was. And something new and fierce was built upon it. Something inexcusably resilient.” That line alone captures her spirit so perfectly. Her determination, her pain, and her refusal to give up made her such a compelling heroine to follow.

Gavrel and Seryn together were everything. I loved every single moment between Gavvy and Ser, their bond was so deep, so unwavering, and so beautifully written. Their love never felt rushed or forced, it felt earned through every hardship they faced. When Gavrel whispered, “If this is all we have, then let it be enough,” my heart genuinely clenched. They are the kind of couple you root for with your entire soul.

What made this book even more special was how atmospheric and haunting it was. The nightmare realm, the Fates, the tension, and the looming sense of destiny made every chapter feel alive. There is something chilling yet poetic about the way Rowyn writes, especially when she reminds us, “For what is death but a dream?” It made me pause, think, and feel all at once.

This story is not just about love, it is about resilience, hope, and choosing yourself even when everything feels impossible. Seryn realizing, “I loved and was loved. My life was messy and imperfect. But it was beautiful, and it was mine,” hit me deeply. It felt personal, raw, and incredibly powerful.

By the end, I was completely wrecked in the best way. This was such a beautiful, emotional, and unforgettable journey filled with heart, danger, and magic. I was so hooked that I finished it in just two days, and I already know this is a book I will think about for a very long time.

Of Hollowed Stars dives in exactly where book two left off and delivers a deeply satisfying conclusion to the first arc of the Fate of the Embered series. No warm-up, no mercy—just straight into the feelings. And it sticks.

Seryn and Gavrel’s bond is beautifully written, emotionally intense, and occasionally feral (in the best way). Seryn shows real growth through genuinely hard choices, while Gavrel remains utterly devoted, wildly self-sacrificing, and incapable of imagining a world without her. The emotional pacing moves fast at times, but never enough to pull focus from the story.

The plot is well balanced, the pacing spot on, and the world-building is rich without being overwhelming. Prophecy, history, magic, multiple realms—it’s all immersive and poetically done. Rowyn’s imagery makes every chapter feel alive, especially with the nightmare realm, the Fates, and the constant pull of destiny looming in the background.

At its core, this isn’t just a love story—it’s about resilience, hope, and choosing yourself when everything feels impossible. Seryn’s realization that her messy, imperfect life was still beautiful hit hard and felt deeply personal (let’s be honest, that’s all of us at times). The book wraps up the main storyline cleanly while leaving just enough open doors for the next trilogy—no cliffhanger, just intrigue. I’m already impatient to see where this world goes next.

Thank you Rowyn Adelaide for the #gifted eARC in exchange for my honest review!

ROWYN! ADELAIDE! Ugh, rip my heart out why don’t you?! This was the PERFECT ending to this trilogy. I am obsessed. I loved the “happily ever after for now” vibes. Because realistically, things happen and don’t stay “happy” all the time.

Seryn literally said “I’m that b!tch” and proved it over and over. (IYKYK) I won’t spoil it but let’s say she goes toe to toe with some pretty impressive people and she holds her own pretty flawlessly.

Gavrel is the definition of “my man my man my man” because he KNOWS who his girl is and he KNOWS she’s “that b!tch!” But he’s also not the one to mess with, ESPECIALLY when it involves those he loves. He is fierce and brooding and feisty but he’s loyal and a great soldier.

This series has fallen into my top 5 favorite series ever! I’m so happy for Rowyn and her success! Im thrilled to be able to read her work and gush over it. I cannot wait for what’s next. Stay tuned yall cuz it’s gonna be a wild ride! 5/5 no notes.

I’m over the moon with how amazing this finale to the trilogy was. Seryn went through so much in this and Gavrel went through a whole mess of stuff too. These two WORKED for their happy ending. Morpheus was amazing and there were some new characters introduced who were absolutely incredible. Milena is like a cockroach in her persistence to remain alive. I loved the way everyone was able to use their embers to help attain their goals. Phobetor was straight up unhinged. There were some really awesome battle scenes in this and the way Seryn’s powers grew over the course of the book was *chef’s kiss*. The spicy scenes with Gavrel and Seryn were a lot of fun to read. The ending for this was just perfect and I’m really looking forward to seeing what’s going to happen next. Hopefully an explanation for the weird tension between Kaden, Caelora, and Jace.

What an epic end to this trilogy. Seryn and Gavrel's story wrapped up beautifully. Rowyn did such a wonderful job creating a artisticlly descriptive world that lends to full immersion in her stories. There was high stakes and tension that created a book worth reading! I loved reading Seryn and Gavrel fight for each other and everything/everyone they love. The found family created deep relationships that I know will be amazing to read about going forward. I cannot wait to see what Rowyn has next for us, and I know that it is going to be an captivating read.

This dark fantasy romance series has high stakes, found family, all the spice. The magic system is exciting and creative and the writing is descriptive and immersive.

"Don't be afraid of what's inside you, Seryn. Even stars need the dark to burn."

This was the last book in the Fate of the Embered series and Bloody Void did it deliver! The perfect conclusion to Seryn & Gavrel’s story that had me gasping for more.

The characters are so well written the word building makes you feel like you’re there. The story had me on the edge of my seat during every battle and may have gotten me all emotional. Seryn and Gavrel go through so much. But love conquers all.

Book Three rounds off Seryn and Gavrel's journey in this dreamscape perfectly.

The emotional depth between the two blooms brighter than a shooting star across a clear night's sky. The intensity between them was a little fast paced at times but didn't detract from the plot at hand.

The plot was neither lacking nor too complex . The consistency of pacing was spot on for a story this size. The right amount of suspense and drama keeps a twist in the knickers. The glossary at the end was super helpful - a real Hallelujah for these dusty brain cells.

It's been a real treat to witness Rowyns confidence bloom across this series. Each book is more impressive than the last. She is incredibly passionate about this venture and has great engagement with her arc readers. She's certainly one to look out for ✨️

Wonderful ending to this part of the series

Rowyn Adelaide has knocked it into the nether void with the close of this trilogy.

She absolutely packed in the action, world building, character growth and spice. You think she's going to zag? Well she uno reversed it instead.

The culmination of Seryn and Gavrels story is not for the faint of heart. Rowyn absolutely plays with your emotions. Nail biting and sitting on the edge of your seat is a requirement here.

All of that to say that you should read it. If you haven't read the first two run and do that now. So you will be ready when this book comes out...

What a beautiful conclusion of this trilogy. Seryn & Gavrel's bond is so beautifully written! Seryn really grows in this story and a lot of difficult choices had to be made. But what I really loved was the world building and how poetic every chapter was written by Rowyn.
This story is full of found family, ancients and true love.

I was actually the Beta reader for this book.

The conclusion of this story was a bitter sadness for me. For so long I was invested in the story and followed these characters as they grew.

The love tale is one of sweet devotion and harmony.

The family love story is one of acceptance, understanding and loss.

I was left feeling complete as this story ended.

Of Hollowed Stars begins where Burning Embers ends.

The world building is still top tier. Absolutely stunning descriptions of every place these characters visit.

The friendships remain strong. I love this little group of family.

I loved that there was always something happening, and none of ot felt forced or rushed. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Rowyn is an incredible storyteller.

I loved the surprises in this one. I loved the fights. The banter. The love.

It was the perfect ending to Seryn and Gavrel's story. I can not wait to see what happens next for this group. I'm hoping it's either Kaden or Bree's story up next.

This conclusion to this trilogy was not my favorite of the three books. It was well written but felt drawn out at times. Every time you think a foe has been vanquished they kept surviving. At times it felt a little overdone. There were also a lot of side characters, and sometimes it felt hard to keep track of what was happening. In the author’s defense though, that’s probably my fault for not rereading the first two books before this one. The author also does deserve a lot of credit for creativity and world building. This book wasn’t bad, I just couldn’t rate it as highly as the first two books since I didn’t enjoy it as much.

Thanks to the author for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

what a beautifully written third installment of this series. The world building in this book was amazing, I really enjoyed the creation of this world and I could tell that the author put a lot of work into it. Though I would've liked more surprising plot reveals and suspenseful moments, especially being the trilogy's conclusion, it kept me fully engaged. Seryn and Gavrel had me swooning and completely head over heels over them. Seryn was finally the women she thought she could never be but was always meant to be. I do wish i had more of Letti and Xenia but maybe we will get that as a spin off (hint hint).

My favorite book in the Fate of the Embered series to date!

It ends on the perfect note, wrapping up any loose ends and giving us perfect moments of comfort and excitement that truly evoke heavy melancholic emotions. As many know, Gavrel was my book boyfriend since day one and seeing his character growth only made me love him more. I’m so sad to see this story come to a close after all the comfort it’s brought me.

That being said I can’t wait to see more of these beautiful characters in the future!

Well… here we are. My final review of Fate of The Embered and the conclusion to Seryn’s journey and what a journey it’s been.

The ending might be my favourite part of the entire series. It feels earned. Nothing is neatly glossed over, and every revelation and sacrifice carries weight. You can sense how carefully the story has been building toward this point and when it lands, it hits hard, balancing emotional impact with triumphant, fist-pumping moments.

Seryn’s growth has always been the backbone of this story. She’s doubted herself. She’s struggled with love. She’s questioned whether she’s enough. And that’s what makes her so relatable. Watching her finally understand that believing in herself can literally change everything, that hit. It never felt overdramatic or “woe is me”, just honest. Her choices matter. Her sacrifices matter, you really feel the weight of the woman she’s become and it’s badass.

Her quest to find Gavrel brings urgency and heart. It’s driven by longing and unfinished history, and their bond feels stronger than ever, committed, determined, unwavering. The reunion with her mother is tender yet bittersweet, made even more compelling by the revelation of her mother’s resilience and leadership. The dynamic with her father adds depth, reshaping Seryn’s understanding of her lineage in a satisfying way. And yes, I’ll always love a powerful ancestral reveal, especially when it underscores just how formidable the heroine truly is.

There are also subtle, intriguing nods toward Merek that definitely don’t feel accidental, like seeds being planted. And if this world continues, I’d be very interested to see whether he steps into a larger role.

The plot is intense, high stakes, emotional confrontations, lasting consequences but it’s paced with care. I love the found family element and care for so many of these wonderful characters. Tension builds steadily, then gives way to quieter moments of reflection and connection. It keeps you invested without overwhelming you.

Earlier threads resurface in clever, satisfying ways, reinforcing how thoughtfully the series has been constructed. Loss matters. Hope endures. And the finale stays true to the characters we’ve followed from the start.

I’ve utterly adored this series and can’t wait to see what happens next and who takes centre stage.

You NEED to read this series! I LOVED it!

The Fate of the Embered Series by Rowan Adelaide is a spicy, gothic, dark fantasy romance and I loved every word. There is magic, angst all around, and hard-won HEAs. The world is deep and complex, full of corruption and monsters, and meddlesome gods.

In a world where the inhabitants are forced into magical slumber every six months and memories are erased, dreams decay and reality fractures. When Seryn’s magic awakens, fate and choice collide, and she embarks on a quest to discover what she is.

Every character shines. Seryn is fierce, strong, and brave. Her growth is one of the best parts as her magic awakens and she has to decide if she’ll run from it or embrace it and her struggles feel real. And Gavrel. He’s broody, broken, and desperate to protect his loved ones even with his own life. The chemistry between these two is electric. And you feel for them and ache for them.

All the other characters are written with depth and they feel real. Kaden is the best friend and brother, he's sweet and funny, but not without faults, and it’s fun to watch him mature. And Breena. Breena just slayed me. Letti is strong and grounded. We all need a sister like Letti. And there were so many more character I loved all the way down to Mr. Burlam the grumpy librarian and Derya the flighty chambermaid.

The banter throughout the entire series is top tier. I mean, spit your drink, laugh-out-loud funny. Looking at you, Breena. The stakes are high and the action never stops. There are a few moments where we’re allowed to breathe but then we’re right back in it, fighting for our lives.

The brokenness of the characters is just heart rending and the relationships are messy and real, and somehow, they manage to mend each other. Along the way, we are reminded that even our scars and darker sides of our personality make us who we are. True self-acceptance helps you grow and become the best version of yourself you can be. This book teaches you that loving someone means loving all of them.

⭐️⭐️⭐️️⭐️/ ️🌶️🌶️🌶️

If you have not read Rowyn Adelaide yet, I just have to ask “WHY NOT?!” Her Fate of the Embered series is three books now, the latest being Of Hollowed Stars. Rowyn is an author who will pull you into her beautiful world, but tie in dark themes, characters that root themselves in your soul, and romance that lift you up and plummet you to the ground all at once. She not only writes amazing stories, but she brings them to life with her exquisite world building skills! Each book grabs on to me and refuses to let go until the last page.

Gavrel and Seryn return in book 3 right where they left off in book 2. Separated, silently grieving, but still fighting for what they want to accomplish. As these two souls search for their other half, the adventures that unfold will captivate you and have you fighting alongside our MCs. Their love is deep and sustaining. No matter what their journey throws at them, they remain steadfast and loyal to each other, while at the same time, not losing focus on the big picture. Their destinies are not only tied together, but woven throughout so many other entities in these stories.

Beyond amazing MCs, Rowyn provides side characters that add to the found family vibes of all three books. Gavrel and Seryn wouldn’t be anything about this formed family standing by their sides and fighting just as hard. As the first trilogy in this world comes to an end, I am hopeful we will see these beloved characters again in later books and expanded stories from Rowyn.

I cannot shout loud enough how much I enjoy Rowyn’s writing, character development, and ability to immerse you into a world that is vivid, chaotic, and beautiful all at the same time. Every word is written with intention, every character choice is decided with purpose, and the end result is a book, no, a series, that I will continuously want to return to.

As always, review any author notes before reading.

What to Expect:
✨High Stakes Quest
🖤Fate vs Choice
✨Dark Romantasy
🖤LGBTQ Rep
✨Found Family
🖤Morally Gray

“Of Hollowed Stars” brings the first trilogy of Rowyn Adelaide’s “Fate of the Embered” series to a close with pulse-pounding intensity. This is dark fantasy at its most immersive, where the stakes are existential and every victory is earned through grit and sacrifice.
Rowyn Adelaide’s world-building achieves epic new heights as the narrative plunges into the haunting realms of the Nether Void. Here, readers will traverse nightmare landscapes and corrupted cities, a vividly rendered backdrop for the desperate battles against overwhelming dark magic. The plot’s pacing is impeccable, masterfully mirroring the characters' urgency and allowing the reader little respite.
At the heart of this turmoil is Seryn, a heroine whose journey is the soul of the novel. We witness her compelling evolution from self-doubt to embracing her destiny, her resilience serving as a powerful testament to inner strength. Alongside her love, Gavrel, she stands against a formidable array of foes; hungry powers, rigid elders, and evil ancients, to restore balance to their world. Their found family, their khorda, becomes a crucial source of power and heart, grounding the epic struggle in relatable bonds.
Rowyn Adelaide’s greatest strength lies in her characters. She crafts individuals who are wonderfully complex and achingly real, regardless of which side of the conflict they stand on. Seryn’s journey from disbelief to acceptance is not just a fantasy trope, but an inspiring message that resonates on a human level.
The finale is both supremely satisfying and tantalizing, hinting at expansive stories yet to be told in this rich world. I am deeply intrigued by what comes next and can only hope the wait for the next book will be a short one. An absolutely captivating read.

The perfect ending to Seryn and Gavrel's story!

Poor Seryn continues to go through it in this book, not getting the well-deserved break that our girl deserves. This book picks up quickly from where we left off in Of Blooming Embers, and Seryn continues to learn more about her heritage, her magic, and what she needs to do.

She is VERY lucky things worked out after making that deal with her uncle! I do think things went a little quickly in this story, especially with the revelations from Of Blooming Embers. We likely could've spent a whole book exploring the Ancients, Morpheus and Phoebetor's story, and Seryn working out how to get through her deal without hurting either her father nor Gavrel.

And the spice! It was turned UP in this story, with Gavrel literally worshipping Seryn at every opportunity.

While Seryn and Gavrel's story arc is complete, there are so many more stories to be told! And we get a few hints about who's story is coming with the bonus epilogues. I can't wait!

If you love a dark fantasy romance with no fae, steeped in Greek mythology, fate vs choice, morally grey characters, she saves him, stabby women & broody men, high stakes quests, cursed lands & portals, magic, monsters & mayhem, fate, prophecies & nightmares, all the angst, and all the spice, then check out Of Hallowed Stars!

I received an advanced review copy from the author. This review contains my honest opinion and is being left voluntarily.

This is the final book in the first trilogy in the Fate of the Embered series, and it is such an amazing conclusion and wrap up to the trilogy. We are back in Rowyn’s immersive world with another journey and a prophecy to figure out. This book is action packed and keeps you engaged to the very last page. Everything starts to unfold and come together. Destinies are decided and secrets are revealed. There are a lot of hard decisions that need to be made throughout this book, especially by Seryn, and I’m not sure I would be able to make them if I was in her shoes. I love these characters so much, and I can’t believe how much growth they have made throughout the series. Once unsure of their decisions, to confident on what needs to be done whatever the cost. It was an emotional rollercoaster to say the least. The friendships and relationships made are the best and it’s one of my favorite parts. Will Seryn and Gavrel finally get their happy ending? You will have to check it out for yourself! I highly recommend this series and can’t wait for what Rowyn has in store for us next!

Thank you so incredibly much to the author for an advanced reader copy and for letting me be a part of this amazing journey. I am voluntarily leaving a review, and all thoughts are my own.
