Since I am teaching English in Indonesia, it is not ESL, but EFL. Children in Asia are sometimes forced to learn English externally. However, metacognition and the love to learn English are two most important things encouraged internally in active and child-initiated learning. I have got to practice a lot after reading this!

I own and operate a language school in Japan. This book is required reading for anyone who plans to come and work for me as a teacher. It starts with basic child-centered theories, moves on to practical application, and then finishes with a very helpful list of possible games and activities. This is a must-read for anyone teaching or planning to teach English in an Asian country. I highly recommend it!
