The Flames #2

Burning Fury

Rate this book
Jessie

I harbour secrets buried so deeply within me that even the devil himself would think twice before prying them loose.

There’s an intensity in her gaze that compels me to surrender to her every whim.

Even though my heart screams to resist.

I never intended to offer her my help.

Tobias

My life unravelled before me as the spectres of her past crept back into our shared space, their presence heavy and suffocating as if they owned our very breaths.

The atmosphere thickened with unspoken words, the weight of the secret within us.

Can we maintain the chaos, or will this revelation be the fracture that shatters our bond forever?

Sean
She fled from us, her absences leaving a shadow over our hearts as we were left to ponder the fate of our precise angel. It wasn't until we stumbled upon her. Alive yet ensnared by someone who had the cast of evil, kept a secret and for a very good reason.

Ash
They were everything to me, the love of my life. My mother was taken too soon, falling victim to my father's ruthless hands, and now I stand before her darkest fears, the people who shattered her dreams. They wove webs of deceit and took my lover for granted. Prompting me to flee- venturing far, far away - until I fell into the clutches of the devil, the one who lurked in the shadow of existence

I alpha read this book! I will be rereading as an ARC reader when the time comes! This book is epic! That is all I will say for now!

Update:

After reading again as an ARC reader, this book is absolutely amazing! There are so many twists, turns, and unexpected surprises that just blew me away. I loved every bit of this story. I laughed, cried, and even raged a bit. Ash really discovers so much about herself in this book and I am absolutely for it. I can’t wait to read more of this series as Jess releases them!

Burning Fury is a dark, taboo conclusion that doesn’t hold back. This final book dives deeper into the twisted relationships, betrayal, and emotional damage that’s been building since book one. With multiple POVs, morally gray characters, and intense taboo dynamics, the story keeps you in a constant state of tension.
Goodreads +1
The emotional intensity is definitely the strongest part. The characters are messy, obsessive, and deeply flawed, which fits perfectly with the dark tone of the series. Their connection feels toxic but addictive, and the constant push and pull kept me invested. The twists and betrayals added drama, even if some felt more shocking than emotionally impactful.
That said, the pacing felt uneven at times, and certain emotional moments didn’t hit as hard as I wanted them to. I was hoping for a more satisfying emotional payoff in the finale, especially after everything the characters endured. Some resolutions felt rushed, while others left me wanting more closure.
Overall, Burning Fury is a solid ending for fans of dark taboo romance. It delivers angst, obsession, and chaos, but it didn’t completely blow me away. Still, if you’ve followed the Flames series, it’s worth reading to see how everything finally burns to the ground.

Chaos, Secrets, & 🚫Emotional Safety

Okay besties… if book 1 was chaos, "Burning Fury" said “hold my gasoline.” This installment? WAY more spice than plot... and I’m not even mad about it.

Ash (our unhinged, serial-k!ller queen) is spiraling deeper into the dark with Jessie, Tobias, and Sean, and the tension is suffocating in the best way. Secrets are festering, betrayal is lurking, and the mental health rep adds an extra layer of raw intensity that makes everything hit harder.

Jessie’s demons? Tobias unraveling? Sean going feral when Ash disappears? I was STRESSED. And the triggers in this one are heavy, so please read those warnings before diving in. This is not soft romance. This is taboo, morally gray, why-choose chaos with an ex-cop, a hitman, and a tattooed menace wrapped around a dangerously unstable FMC.

And that ending??? Really, Jess Cody?!?! The audacity. 😒But the bonus epilogue? Thank you for feeding us.🤭

If you love your romance pitch-black, messy, and completely addictive… you need this.😉

This is the second book in the series by Jess Cody. I am going to preface this review by saying this book is filled with possible triggers so please make sure you research them before you read!

Now to my review: this book continues the story of FMC Ash and the three MMCs she is in a relationship and commits unaliving with. (Yup you read that right, three men.) The author does not hold back when it comes to the sexual exploration of all the varying BDSM situations the characters find themselves in. The story gets told mostly from her point but the men have their say too. I feel like the sexual situations were so extreme that at times I wanted to walk away from the book but I couldn’t put it down! The storyline is ok, definitely more triggers to be aware of, but it’s the spice that got me. For me, I feel that if the storyline could’ve been developed just a little more and some of the spice toned down just a smidge this would’ve been a definite five star read from me.

I am interested to see if the author decides to continue on with Ash’s story.

This was a good book that had me hooked in the beginning, but once I reached part two, it felt like I was reading a completely different story. The pacing became chaotic, and many of the characters started to ramble. In the first book, Ash was the only one who rambled due to her childhood and past trauma, so that shift stood out to me.

I thoroughly enjoyed Ash’s relationships with Jessie, Tobias, and Sean, and I cannot wait to see what is in store for them next. This felt more like Jessie’s book, as we learned a lot about his past and his secrets, but I would still love more insight into Sean and Tobias.

I will warn that this is a taboo romance, meaning it is extremely dark and touches on some very heavy subjects, so be sure to check trigger warnings before reading. You also must read the first book before starting this one, as it picks up immediately where the previous story left off.

There was a lot to unpack in this next installment. I really liked how the beginning of the book gave some back story of the guys. However having 4 POVs became a bit confusing for me. This also felt like Jessie’s book and how he came to save Ash and his internal battle with the demons as a result.

We learned so much more about the story line overall and how they all came together and what trauma Ash and Jessie endured for so long. It was heartbreaking to see how much one’s family could be so evil and deceptive. Themes in this book are definitely not for the light hearted. It is very dark and taboo.

There definitely was spice between Ash and her men and I’m so glad in the end they were all able to create a relationship that fit them so perfectly.

Burning Fury is the twisted next book in the Flames series by Jess Cody. This book delves deep into dark, toxic relationships that started in Burning Souls. This is a dark, why-choose, so check your trigger warnings if you are sensitive to darker themes.

The book features multiple POVs, including Ash, a morally complex survivor of childhood trauma, and the three men she is involved with - Jessie, Tobias, and Sean.

There are twists and turns, betrayals and drama! Jess does not hold back in this taboo romance! I would say that the sexual relationship dominated the book, and the storyline took a bit of a backseat.

Thanks to Jess Cody for gifting me an eARC of Burning Fury. I am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Book 2 and wow... this one dives straight into the past and does not hold back. It's darker, heavier, and an intense continuation of Burning Souls with plenty of spice to match.

The plot twist completely blindsided me.
I didn’t see this coming.

My heart absolutely broke for Ash. She goes through so much, and I was genuinely angry on her behalf. Sean, Tobias, and Jessie are utterly obsessed with her and refuse to let her go, no matter the cost.
The devotion, the chaos, the intensity... whew.

Please check your triggers. This book has very heavy subject matters and does not shy away from it.

Thank you, Jess, for another incredible and emotionally charged read.

This book is an absolute psychological inferno! It’s seductive, unrelenting, and guaranteed to mess with your head. Check your triggers before diving in, because it does not hold back. I was furious for Ash; that woman has been dragged through devastation so brutal it’s a miracle she’s still standing, let alone functioning. Every chapter tightens the screws, every twist hits like a slap, and just when you think you’ve caught your breath, the story yanks the ground out from under you again. I won’t dare spoil the chaos, but I devoured this in a matter of hours, completely consumed, unable to look away from the wreckage unfolding on the page.

I’m having a hard time with how I feel about this book. Ash is still dealing with her past trauma…and suffers new trauma as well. The flashing back and forth between the past and the present kind of gave me whiplash. Ash learns a lot about circumstances surrounding her parents and her siblings…things she doesn’t necessarily want to know, unfortunately. Still dark and spicy and depraved. Despite all the chaos, Ash, Jessie, Sean, and Tobias discover how deep their love is for each other and that they’ll do anything they can to protect that love and each other.

This is one spicy mental head job. Please read your triggers before reading this book! I was so pissed off for Ash, that poor woman has been through hell and back. It’s a wonder that her mind even remotely works.
This book has so many twists that it keeps you on your toes. I won’t go into too much detail because I don’t wanna give away spoilers, but I will say that I read this in a matter of a few hours, I couldn’t put it down.

When the guys thought they'd be keeping the FMC safe, darkness always found its way back and breaks her all over! I love how they bonded and look out for each other but don’t mistake that for softness, they're sweet but in a pitch black kinda way.

Jess definitely does not hold back - the violence is graphic, the themes are heavy, and the sexual exploration is unapologetically bold. You may really want to consider the TW for this one.

Grateful for the ARC opportunity.

Please read your trigger warnings with this book !

The books had so many twist and it kept me on my toes I don’t want to spoil it but i could not put this book down!

The second book really goes deeper into their relationship, contains morally grey characters and a taboo dynamic. The book was very fast paced, and there was a lot of push and pull situations with was toxic yet obsessive.

Over all I really enjoyed the book I highly recommend it

I missed reading the first book. But with that being said, this was still easy to follow and understand. Ash, Tobias, Sean, and Jessie are the perfect compliment to each other. Ash, now she’s dark. Splendidly dark. I’m so in love with her. And the guys? 🥵🔥 just wow. This book had me in a chokehold. Putting it down? Wasn’t an option. This was twisted in the best ways. And that spice? It wasn’t sprinkled, it wasn’t dashed, it was the whole meal. And I ate. This was one hell of a good story.

So dark! Make sure you're checking those triggers because this one is pitch black. We get a glimpse into the past here that really ties into book one nicely.
