Maat Hone Tak (English: Until Defeat) is an intricate depiction of a man’s thought process versus a woman’s. Gender based biases are highlighted very skillfully. Azfar is a wooer who is unable to separate his inflated ego from pure love. Fatima is an intelligent girl who doesn’t let emotions ride her decisions and plans her life. Love, Intrigue, mystery and deception are the dominant elements of this story. It is available as a companion story in Sahar Aik Ista’ara Hai. It was first published in Pakeeza Digest from October to November 2000.
Umera Ahmed is one of the most widely-read and popular Urdu fiction novelist and screenplay writer of this era. She completed her Masters in English Literature from Murray College, Sialkot. Later she became an English language lecturer for the students of O and A levels at Army Public College, Sialkot. However she left the job a few years back in order to devote her full attention to writing. She began her writing career in 1998 at a quite young age. Her initial stories were published in monthly urdu digests and later came out in the form of books. She has written about 16 books , comprising of complete novels and compilations of short stories. However it was her novel "Peer-e-Kaamil (S.A.W.W)" which became her identity.
The story was good and showed us how inhumane some people can be. However, the character of the female lead impressed me with her intelligence. My point is, even if you seek revenge, is it worth wasting your entire life with your biggest enemy by pretending to be his good happy wife? In my opinion, Umera Ahmad should have written a better ending, where the protagonist gives Azfar a fitting punishment by leaving him and taking his property and children with her.
