3.5 stars -- #21 in the 2026 Search & Purge, this is a collection of 18 stories and poems, all about witches of course. Like the introduction, though, which is rambling and contradictory, the quality of the works included is also widely varied. Divided into two sections, the stories range from more contemporary to old folklore respectively, with the stronger section being the second one by far. I really enjoyed the Russian, Swedish, and Korean tales. Regardless of my enjoyment, though, or lack thereof, its circulation (four checkouts - the last in 2017), inclusion in library collections (no other libraries in the district - one public library), and its condition would force its removal. The hardback cover is very worn, and foxing marks have crept onto multiple pages. Farewell.
