Amanda Owen is the author of "The Power of Receiving: A Revolutionary Approach to Giving Yourself the Life You Want and Deserve" (Tarcher/Penguin, 2010) and "Born to Receive: 7 Steps Women Can Take Today to Reclaim Their Half of the Universe" (Tarcher/Penguin, 2014), and "The Justice Bell: Tracing the Journey of a Forgotten Symbol (Justice Bell Foundation).
With a background in social work and a twenty-five year practice as a counselor, Amanda has been presenting lectures and workshops since the mid-eighties.
N.Y. Times best-selling author Christiane Northrup, MD calls Amanda’s power-of-receiving philosophy “brilliant, elegant, profound, and enormously practical,” Maria Shriver calls her work “insightful,” and Elaine Shamos, the Director of The Women's Health Resource Center at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center says “Amanda's presentation skills are outstanding and, most importantly, her message is life-changing.”
In 2016, Amanda co-founded a nonprofit, the Justice Bell Foundation, which is dedicated to reclaiming women's history and promoting voter participation. Since its founding, she has made a short film "Finding Justice: The Untold Story of Women's Fight for the Vote," which has aired on PBS stations and at the National Women's History Museum among other locations. She commissioned a public art project in partnership with the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, a replica Justice Bell that travels to institutions, museums, and organizations, to educate the public about this lost icon of the women's suffrage movement and the women who fought for voting rights. Amanda has also participated in creating a school program that introduces children to the story of the women's suffrage movement.
Her new book, "The Justice Bell: Tracing the Journey of a Forgotten Symbol" was published on December 20, 2025 by the Justice Bell Foundation.
Great book, with the usual interesting, amusing and cute content. The title should’ve been tails instead of tales, to reflect the animal content. The date of publishing on here is incorrect as it’s November and I’m listening to the E-audio version, which is enriched by being narrated by Amanda herself, who reads like a professional and doesn’t ruin the stories.
I really enjoy all of Amanda's writing, so I asked for this book for Christmas and was lead to believe it was a collection of fictional Christmas stories written for children, but it's not. The tales being told are biographical again and are more for the older kids and adults, I'd say. Of course it is a much shorter read than Amanda's other works, so maybe in that sense it's been designed for children in mind possibly. All the short chapters in this book are a memory for the author and fun Christmas themed bit of chaos that have happened on the farm. It's a great gift for any fans of the Yorkshire shepherdess and her family. I did spot a couple of errors on the 'Answer' page at the back of the book. They've put in a short quiz of questions in the back pages to see if you can answer them correctly based on the information you took in from reading the book, and I could see straight away answer's 1 and 2 were incorrect. I couldn't help but go back and read the chapter to double check, and yes, sadly, errors were made, and the answer page doesn't actually contain all the correct answers 😅. Oh well, hopefully that'll picked up by the editors eventually if someone writes to them, but never the less I'll always be a fan of Amanda's writing and I'll look forward to the next book.
For some reason Goodreads thinks that this book has not yet been published but I ordered and received it from Amazon prior to Christmas.
Christmas Tales from the Farm by The Yorkshire Shepherdess Amanda Owen is a delightful little collection of short stories set in Winter and around Christmas. They are all based on Amanda's life at Ravenseat, along with her children, Clive and assorted animals. Aimed mainly at children,I thoroughly enjoyed this light hearted read set at Christmas. Well written as usual, I found this a lovely book and enjoyed reading it.
This book is full of lovely, gentle, heart warming stories. Just what we all need in the depths of winter. Read about the children's Winter Olympics held at Ravenseat farm, and of sheep getting buried in the snow! From Little Joe the horse, to Coco and Channel the sheep, this book is full of animals, great and small!
