Waiz Chronicles #2

Flight To Facilis

Rate this book
Joel’s achieved the impossible. He’s escaped from The Temple of Differe School, twice. His actions are seen as a scandalous crime in Differe, but on his second flight he discovers a city in the West End has the power to pardon his offense. He can be free of the headmaster forever . . . if only he can get there.

Disguised as a temple guard, Joel races to the capital city of Facilis with a band of rogue Differian soldiers. The group wreaks havoc along the way, as Joel learns Differe’s power stretches well beyond its borders and is controlling many of the villages in the West End.

As he nears Facilis, he begins to realize his quest for freedom will impact more than himself. That is, until the city falls under siege to Differe, and he gets caught.

Outside Joel’s prison walls a whole region is rooting for him, an entire army awaits his leadership, and his best friend has given him her heart, yet all he can hear in his head is the enemy’s victory cries. Hope calls to him, if only he will choose to hear it above the noise of his own voices.

About the author

From the author's website:

Mikelyn Bolden grew up in southeast Alabama on a seventeen-acre piece of land with no cable television. This means she knows how to kill snakes, fry okra and eat boiled peanuts. She also says “yes ma’am” a lot and has a standing date with college football on Saturdays in the fall.

Mikelyn comes from a long line of devoted storytellers and began writing short allegorical tales in elementary school. She became an obsessive journalist about this time and was frequently known for getting lost in her world of imaginative stories (Ahem, still does).

Throughout high school and college she used her writing and leadership skills for various inner city humanitarian projects around the world. The perspective gained from these ventures led her to choose a career in speech-language pathology. Though she is now writing fulltime, she still enjoys “playing” with little people and empowering adults through this field.

Escape from Differe is her first novel and was birthed mostly out of her own personal story, as she will readily admit that she hears voices in her head and often talks to herself just like her main character in The Waiz Chronicles.

Depending on the day, Mikelyn can be found with her husband in Dothan, Alabama, on the Auburn University campus, or traveling the globe in search of inspiration for her next story.

So disappointed to get to the end of this book only to find out it isn’t really the end! This is the second book in The Waiz Chronicles, and I thought it was the last book. But no…

This second book is better than the first, but it is only an ok read.

“Whatever you focus on is what you will become, or whatever you give your affection to will define you” (54).

“He could choose himself and impact one or choose others and impact many” (216).

“Selfishness is lonely” (216).

“Sometimes it’s painful to let those we love make choices, but it’s how we grow” (237).

“You are not your past” (286).

“Nothing’s unforgivable” (416).

“Circumstances are just what happen to you—they don’t say who you are” (453).
