Ralf König was born on the 8th of August in Soest, Westphalia, Germany. He went to the secondary school in Werl and then later did an apprenticeship as a cabinet-maker. In 1979 during his coming-out he published his first short comic stories which due to the politically motivated gay-movement were very engaged. The comic-stories appeared in the Munich underground magazine Zomix as well as in the gay periodical Rosa Flieder. He decided to continue his studies and then trained at the National Academy of Art in Düsseldorf from 1981-1986 concentrating on Free Art.
I almost didn't buy this one--the idea of reading an entire graphic novel written as if it were the character Paul's pornographic science fiction novel sounded a little too much like a one-note joke--but ended up doing so for completeness' sake. And lo and behold, I actually liked it a lot more than I thought I would! For the sake of those readers who have followed Paul's life over the years, the "novel" has a lot of very funny (and occasionally poignant) resonances with Paul's own relationships, and the interludes between the bits of "novel" are pretty standard Konrad-und-Paul stuff (for me, always happy-making). There's no actual brilliance here, but it definitely amused me.
