Sugar & Salt

After over a decade working in the sex industry, Janice Cane retains no illusions about the nature of relationships. Everyone lies and everyone wants something. Still, a part of her longs for a connection.

Speed-dating becomes her addiction, a place to find a man for the night when she needs a quick fix, and her last hope that true love may still be waiting around the next corner. When a mysterious man entices both her intellect and her lust, she becomes entangled in an affair more complicated than she’d expected.

Protecting Portia

Jackson Grady met the love of his life. Unfortunately, he was running drugs for a pimp named Sasha at the time, who asked him to keep an eye on their new acquisition from Russia, the bedraggled beauty named Portia. She touched his heart and forced him to confront the kind of man he'd become.

Now, Portia and Jackson both work at The Sugar House. He continuously looks out for her, and longs for her with his every breath, but knows he is unworthy of such an angel. What will Portia do to win not only the heart, but also the body, of the man she loves?

Dual Domination

Caitrin’s a Dominatrix at the high class brothel The Sugar House, and an elegant burlesque performer with leagues of men and women falling at her feet. The Sugar House is her home, her hunting ground, but she’s never felt like she belonged. Only with her childhood friends and fellow deviants, Donovan and Raef, has she found her place.

Donovan prefers his women on the submissive side, and likes to create erotic art out of rope and the female form. When a crisis at The Sugar House puts a friend in trouble, he must confront his deeper feelings for the one woman he’s told himself he can’t have – Caitrin.

With their friendship in turmoil and The Sugar House on the verge of collapse, can these two friends find their way to each other?

My pulse quickens as I see a long lump on the bed farthest from where I’m standing.

For a moment, I think I hear him talking in his sleep.

For a moment, I think of sliding under the covers with him, just to enjoy the irony. We’re sleeping with a wall between us tonight, but instead of a hole he sawed, there’s a door he left propped open. For once, we can actually reach each other.

But he said he didn’t want your company.

I exercise my will power and tip-toe slowly around the hotel bed, so I’m standing right beside his sleeping form.

At least I think he’s sleeping.

His cheek is pressed against the pillow, and his unhurt hand is curled into a fist up near his chin.

I’m fighting the urge to touch him, battling the forbidden desire to lean down close enough so I can brush my lips over his damp hair. From where I’m standing, I can smell the shampoo he used. It’s fruity; sweet. It’s so at odds with his big, rugged body. As if to make me want him more, he shifts his hips a little, and the sheet covering his chest slips down, revealing huge shoulders, smooth, hard pecs, and the upper portion of his incredible abs.

Oh my.

That’s a lot of muscle there.

I take a step back, feeling exhilarated because he’s beautiful, and I’m a bad, bad girl for sneaking in to watch him sleep.

That’s when his hand shoots out and grabs my wrist.

I let out a little cry as he jerks me toward the bed. Then he’s sitting up. His hands close around my waist and I’m dragged atop his sheet-covered lap. He strokes up from my hips, over my sides, and over my bare shoulders, tickling my neck before he gets a firm grip on my face.

“What did I tell you,” he hisses, “about coming into my room?”

I’ve read each of the books in this omnibus as they’ve come out- each installment reinforces the ‘why’ I have a ‘just get it’ label on anything written by Pavarti K. Tyler. Unlike any erotica you have read, she combines some very broken characters all hiding their troubles in various ways, to make their own little family group all sheltering within the confines of The Sugar House, an upscale bordello.
On first glance, you might think that you know these character archetypes: Whores, Dominants, Submissives, Madams… but you would be oh so very wrong. Each character is introduced with small tidbits of information that has you wanting to know more, and they always seem to defy the ‘expected’ for their label.
Each of the first three books focuses the majority of the time on one couple, while the threads from earlier stories are tied off or dropped to be knit in later on: with an ongoing threat that moves from slightly disturbing to violent to potentially disastrous for all involved, each installment brings more development, interaction and understanding for the reader.

Sugar and Salt: The Sugar House # 1
What I did not expect was to be blown away by the characters, to find a sense of nobility and purpose in their decisions or to find the erotic components to be squirm in your seat hot. How can you not love a story when you read “her restraint pulls taut and breaks – the rope of her submission weak against the strength of her desire.”
More secondary characters fill out this slice of life story, bringing with them their own histories, scars and depth of loyalty to Janice and her business. Conversations are as if overheard, loyalties and attachments are clearly displayed, and the characters are all people that you want to know more about, and hope for their safety, and cheer on their decisions when they eliminate a particularly nasty client. The mix is gorgeous and unique, with a perspective enhanced by truly evocative writing that makes this a must read for fans of erotica that want something more.

Protecting Portia: The Sugar House # 2
Writing is clean and polished, evocative and thought-provoking, her characters will engage you and have you wanting to know them, and even when you don’t like them, you need to know what makes them tick. Tyler engages her readers, not by pandering to their preconceived notions, but by fueling imagination and leaving you with stories that keep you thinking and wondering, and perhaps in a small way, change your approach to something you thought you knew.
The story of Jackson and Portia is overlaid with guilt, regret, fear and the palpable sexual tension between them. Portia sees the man beneath the tough guy façade, and she loves him WITH his issues and worries and concerns. While she steps into the abyss one night and tries to push their relationship further, their story reaches a climax that is both emotionally raw and incredibly erotic.

Dual Domination: The Sugar House # 3
The third installment that, among other storylines, focuses on Catrin and Donovan, giving us insight into these two very complex yet compelling characters. Part of the intrigue in this series comes specifically from the characters: the slow unravelling of their stories and their introduction to this world, and the growth of them as people that intrigue, delight, frustrate and reveal themselves in quite surprising ways.
Don knows one thing: he is hopelessly in love with Cait, and he isn’t willing to allow her to keep the ‘friends only’ label on their relationship without a fight. He will push, prod, poke and finally ‘proclaim’ that they are dating, to Cait’s great fear and confusion. Interaction between these two is fiery: loaded with sexual tension, their history and shared humor, secrets and even outlook on the world all builds to make an entertaining and brutally honest display of a relationship working out the ‘kinks’.

Bonus Content: Raef’s Revelation.
You can’t really just deal with Donovan and Caitrin without learning (and wanting to know more) about Raef. The three have been best friends since childhood, and theatre geeks in every performance at their high school. It was these three against the world, and there is a wonderful relationship dynamic at work here.
Raef is constantly working to be unfailingly positive: he rarely lets anything set him back, at least nothing from the outside world. But, his addiction to his early morning yoga class interrupts his day with a chatty instructor that blocked his serenity Frustrated and foiled, he is off on a tear: but holding a grudge while being best-friend / therapist to Cait and Don, and the ‘go to’ person for whatever is needed by the staff at his BDSM / Burlesque club the Gilded Lily doesn’t figure into his life.
In fact, Raef sums up his attitude “For him it’s easy: do what you want, which means a little of everything. Raef found years ago that his tastes varied – he like men, women, anonymous, a little bit dirty, hard or soft and light, dependent on the night and the right person. “ That also extends to his acceptance of differences in people and their own tastes, as long as they are honest and open about who they are.
That doesn’t, however, mean that Raef isn’t looking for ‘more’ or is above manipulating situations to bring about changes for those he loves most. And he does both alternating hysterical reactions and blush-inducing heat that reinforces the strength of his own convictions and the size of his heart. As a short story bonus to this collection, Raef is the perfect dessert edition, a bite that is light at first glance, but leaves you full and satiated.

These are books that are meant to be savored and enjoyed, each story builds on the one before it, the characters grow and develop, and are never just ‘left’ without more notice, their lives are intertwined, and we get to vicariously enjoy those connections: rooting for the happy, crying with the sad, and jeering the boors.
I purchased a copy of this title for my own library. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Great story. Janice who is a madam at sugar is tired of the same thing every night. So she goes to speed dating and finds her salt. Someone she can see her self with and love. I won't say no more except read this book.

Sugar & Salt Review: Ms. Tyler sent us a copy of Sugar & Salt in exchange for a raw review and since it was a novella, I wanted to balk at reading it. I generally don’t enjoy novellas because they always feel rushed and/or incomplete to me. Sugar & Salt was surprisingly in depth for a novella. And it was really good. It is the introductory book in the Sugar House novella series and I will be reading future installments. Yep. I just admitted to wanting to read more novellas. Between Zoey Derrick’s Reason series and Pavarti K. Tyler’s Sugar House novellas, I just may be a convert.

Sugar & Salt focuses on the madam of the Sugar House and her need for a deeper connection than what she has allowed herself to be complacent with. She finds that connection and the banter is fantastic. Seriously witty and smart dialogue combined with a connection that is not just sexual but a whole lot more. But there are obstacles to overcome. I’ll let you read it for yourself to see how well Ms. Tyler paced the story and resolution. We are also given a glimpse and a teaser for the next installment in the series and I am so excited to see where we will be taken next.

Protecting Portia Review: HOT DAMN! Ms. Tyler is a wizard with words and at capturing the essence of human emotion. Protecting Portia has been on my NEED TO READ list since I read the first installment, Sugar & Salt, and the wait was totally worth it! Jackson and Portia are SO right for each other. Jackson just needed to be pushed in the right way.

And Portia. Damn, girl. You found your inner bad ass and stood up for yourself. And it was awesome to read. Not to mention every naughty scene is immensely hot. The only issue is I REALLY REALLY wish Ms. Tyler would write a full length novel. Her writing is superb and while I enjoy her novellas, I would love the chance to lose myself in a full length book from her. Her characters are flawed, but ridiculously real and dynamic. The sex is erotic and hot. And she weaves a tale beautifully. I will be impatiently waiting for the third and final installment in this series. And I will be sad when our days at the Sugar House are over.

Dual Domination Review: Pavarti K. Tyler should be on my Christmas list after this great read. The third and final installment in the Sugar House Novellas was a wonderful conclusion to this novella series. Not only did Tyler give us more Janice and Salt from the first book and Portia and Jackson from the second, but she finally gives us a resolution for Caitrin and Donovan. I was a little apprehensive about this one since I wouldn’t normally choose to read a book with a Domme. I have a hard time relating to a heroine who is so unlike me, but I shouldn’t have worried. As usual with Tyler’s writing, the characters and the story overrode my nonsense and I thoroughly enjoyed the struggle for a new dynamic between Donovan and Caitrin. Given their history and the length of time that they have both been in love with each other, I understood their fear of ruining what they had. But once the deed was done, there seemed to be another issue to resolve. How can two dominate people find the right middle ground without losing a part of themselves? Personally, jealously would be my biggest problem, but after the hot scene that plays out in Caitrin’s dungeon I was corrected and reminded that love overcomes a lot and if you really love someone then their desires and needs can erase the petty emotions that hold a person back.

Dual Domination may be a novella but Tyler has a gift that made this feel like a full length book. Mature characters thinking rationally for the right reasons and a bit of justice for a nemesis from previous books made Dual Domination a lot more than just Caitrin and Donovan’s story. The Sugar House and the entire family that it has created all come together to keep the House from scrutiny and I got the ending I was so desperate for. I am sad to see this series end, but it was well worth the ride.

As a whole I really enjoyed the books, all of them for what they each offered. I loved that this was a set. Being novella’s sometimes the story line seemed a bit rushed. I felt each story left some things kind of hanging.. Unanswered.... But I do I do recommend this wonderful set of reads by a new to me author. Enjoy.

Sugar & Salt
Being a Madam of a well established house, doesn’t mean you can’t or are not entitled to find love.
Janice takes herself to speed dating, which I see her point but then I dont. She had a bit of a time coming to terms with her true self and what she wanted. I did like the play on words between her and Mr. Recycle man, I could see that happening. I enjoyed Janice’s character.. Because she did what she wanted and achieved her goals. Oh Oh..Mr Recycle man..at first I was all in for them knocking the boots, but as the story goes I found that I liked him less and less.

Protecting Portia

Is my fav of this trio. All about being broken and strong at the same time. You can see a bit of darkness in both Jackson and Portia, but also a sense of who each of them are. Some nightmares we just have a hard time moving on from. Jackson wants to love Portia but is afraid, he considers himself too broken and she could do better. The war left Jackson damaged but beyond repair?
Portia is remarkable my heart went out to her, to overcome what she has been through. Portia’s personality is addicting. To know what she has gone through and the ability to see the darkness in someone else and love him in spite of himself. Yep my fav of all three books.

Dual Domination

My second fav..Caitrin and Donovan when one are friends why take the risk of messing it up with mentioning that you love each other. (rolls eyes) Yeah yeah it would be a risk, but running around denying it, but just by your actions everyone else sees it.
They work very... Very closely with each other in a burlesque show. They are good together, So one must ask being all skin deep in each other can they just remain friends?
What makes them..they are dual dominates if there is a way to make this couple work they will have to work through what pleases them.

★✩★✩ 4- Sexy, Hott & Intriguing -Stars ✩★✩★

As a whole, this is a pretty hott series full of fantastic characters, lots of great sex, and an unconventional story-which I LOVED. But I have to say, there were some things I didn't necessarily love about the story. Salt was a big contradiction for me; there were times I liked him -he was hott, sexy & dominating- but his relationship with Janice never really clicked with me and there were times (mostly in the first book) that he came across as a bit of a hypocrite. The whole 'two for one' chapter just pissed me off; after the way he reacts to Janice's job, to do that was just.... it was a real asshat move, completely unnecessary, and really-what was he proving? How is that at all any better than what she was doing? I kinda wished she would have found out about it and called him on his shit. Plus, how can you be in a relationship with a man who doesn't agree with what you do for a living, what you believe in? She deserved better. Sure the sex was hott but I still felt like she was owed so much more. Jackson & Portia as a couple were my favorites ~ you could clearly see just how much they meant to each other. I even fell for Caitrin and Donovan-their struggle with crossing that friendship line was wicked. As much as this was a series centered around sex, there was a lot of emotion involved as these people just wanted to find their own happiness instead of just providing it for everyone else. That's what made the biggest impact on me, all the characters just felt so real-even if I didn't always like some of them. In the end; not everyone will love this book, not everyone will love these characters, but it was unique and that is really hard to come by these days so I would still recommend this to everyone who likes to venture outside of the cookie-cutter mold that has turned into the norm these days.

Sugar & Salt (Novella #1): This is a really good hot sexy read that I really enjoyed. It was surprisingly in depth for a novella. Sugar & Salt focuses on the madam of the Sugar House and her need for a deeper connection than what she has allowed herself in the past.
Protecting Portia (Novella #2): Sweet baby Jesus, immensely hoT is all I can come up with. Portia and Jackson burn every page of this novella! Pavarti K. Tyler has some seriously awesome storytelling skills!
Dual Domination (Novella #3): This is Don & Cait's story. Interaction between these two is fiery and of course, sexually off the charts!

These are books that are meant to be savored and enjoyed, each story builds on the one before it, the characters grow and develop, and are never just ‘left’ without more notice, their lives are intertwined, and we get to vicariously enjoy those connections. You'll laugh and cry, love and hate, and get really hot and bothered LOL as yu read one story after the other. They are short stories, so it isn't hard to just sit down and read the whole box set in one sitting. And it is well worth the time!

I really did enjoy this read! I was pleasantly surprised with this mini series. This author has a way with words and for her to be able to put in a mini novella series should say something about this author. These characters were sexy and strong! These women had overcome extreme obstacles which makes them better in my book! Alpha males and alpha women..lol a very good combo! To have put so much information with the novella aspect is awesome. They are very much un-conventional situations, but also real world problems! Enjoyed the scenes in this read and Rafe...I like his frustrating little kinky issues! I really do recommend this author and this series. Enjoyed it and will look out from more from this author!

I received this ARC from the publisher via Net Galley for my honest review! Thank you Net Galley!!

this was a very interesting boxed set. In the first book you learn about the main characters but the storyline also begins for another set of characters in book 2. And in book two those characters have there story with the continuation of the first set of main characters and more starts happening for a third set of characters for the third book. I know this all sounds confusing but it was very well done and easy to follow. The intimate scenes were very well done. And also super hot. I would definitely recommend this book if you are wanting a great simple story with a few surprises.

Three sexy stories that will keep you glued to your e-reader. These stories are very hot definitely but the stories are entertaining and the characters are very well written. The stories are interwoven and the characters become more in depth with the turn of each page. Great Read and VERY Sexy!
