When a British SAS officer is assassinated in Los Angeles by a member of an IRA splinter group, it is up to District Attorney Rene Marin to prosecute the killer. But before the proceedings can begin, Marin and Detectives Gibson and Donahue are confronted by a series of terrorist murders designed to force the release of the assassin. With the assistance of SAS Major Andrew Whitney, they find themselves caught up in a desperate race against time to unravel a series of betrayals and secret alliances that reach into the very highest levels of government.
During his career as a Head Deputy District Attorney in Los Angeles, Peter S. Berman oversaw the daily operations in a series of courthouses and specialized divisions, including the Hardcore Gang Division, the Sex Crimes Division, and the Career Criminal Division. He retired in 2002.
He has lectured and trained prosecutors throughout the United States for the National Prosecutors College. His work has been profiled on a number of television shows, including CBS’s Sixty Minutes.
From 2008-2018, he donated his time as a Specialist Volunteer with LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division, Cold Case Specials Unit, where he actively investigated unsolved homicide cases. He has been honored by the LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division as their 2008 Reserve Officer of the Year. In 2003, the United States Secret Service presented him with the Director's Recognition Award.
This second book in Tales from the Robbery-Homicide Division by Peter S Berman definitely keeps the reader guessing from the beginning to the end of the book as to who can be trusted and who can't as several IRA members reak havoc on American soil, leading to murder and mayhem. The plot maintains the suspense, action and mystery until the final page is turned and the story laid to rest. In addition to the returning three police characters from book one, several new and interesting ones are also added into the mix, both American and British. What one person considers right and another considers wrong is definitely a debate taken up by Renee and Whit more than once. This is a voluntary review of an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from Hidden Gems Books.
