Absolutely brilliant. Devastating but inspiring, an emotional roller coaster that kept me glued to the pages, read in one sitting. It was just as engaging as book 1, Shattered, holding you captive wanting to know what next? How much more could they take? Would they find help? You become so invested in more than just the main characters outcomes, knowing that the fated mates in each book in the series are only part of the bigger picture, and so many other characters are crucial to the story.
In Suffered you follow Quinn’s journey after the final acts of Shattered, as Julian has been healed by him but predictably turns on him and brutally punishes him. This is how he meets fellow prisoner Sola, and we learn of her long suffering in Julian’s care. No spoilers, but they begin to bond before finding a way out, and this slow burn romance continues alongside the much scarier story line of surviving the Prime (and other’s) search for them, while they recover from trauma inflicted upon them and find a new way forward. Sola’s legion and family are fantastic, and help to lend a lightness of humour and camaraderie to an otherwise horrifying situation, but as always a HEA for the main couple is achieved, for now, while the over-arching story continues yet to be resolved at another time, in a future book. Speaking of which, the epilogue has me itching for the next book, Scarred, I sense another great read coming our way.
