Hansel is in a bad place. A dark place. His past is haunting him. He doesn’t want to bring Leah down with him, so he pushes her away. He doesn’t want to hurt her in the long run, so he’s hurting her now. At least thats my take. The first half of part 3, Hansel is a jerk. Big time. But Leah see’s it for what it is. She’s not dumb.
He’s full of shit.
He thinks he can fool me?
He thinks I don’t know him?
He’s lying to himself.

All Leah wants is for Hansel to let her be there for him. To let her care. She’s always cared for him. She can’t just turn it off.

Hansel wants to set Leah free from this life. He wants her to ultimately heal, and he knows she can’t do it with him.
Leah is a fairy tale.
A princess...
I know I’m not her prince.
I’m not the happy ending for her...
The goal is not to keep my princess.
I brought her here to set her free.

For some reason, it feels like in every four part serial there is that one installment that doesn’t really do it for me. It fits with the story as a whole, but alone, just doesn't work for me. There was one in Red, one in Beast, and this is the one in Hansel. I can’t even pinpoint exactly what it was. The writing was great, it had a sexy scene or two and I liked getting the glimpses into the past. It just didn’t pull me in as much as the first two.

That last line though... really, that last page. Holy hell. I need that final installment asap! I can’t wait to see what happens when she finds out what Hansel’s been hiding and how it’s all going to go down!
It wasn’t supposed to be this way. I wasn’t supposed to tell her, but I have to.

"If we get out of here, you won't forget me, will you?"

"Do you think that I'd forget you? Never. You're like...the center of the universe to me."

"I won't forget you either, Leah."

I am so let down.

This always happens with Ella James' series.

They start off PERFECTLY, but then they lose the awesomeness little by little with every installment and end in a flat and disappointing way.

So why do I keep reading her books?

Because the ideas are golden! At a time when authors keep producing FSOG duplicates with slightly different plots, this woman has come up with something very original and has created some shocking stories. Seriously, here we are, reading erotic versions of the fairytales that we've all grown up listening to our parents reading to us before bed.

How can I not read them?

So if we get to the real point...

What the flying f*ck was that?!

The story and the characters were all over the place!

I can understand that the author is trying to keep things mysterious for the big reveal about "Shelly" but the constant change in Hansel's mood and behavior towards Leah was EXTREMELY CONFUSING and a bit frustrating too.

Hansel is cold and cruel for the half of the book, practically insulting Leah with every word he utters. He is obviously trying to keep her away from himself, thinking she's better off without him, but it's still a bit too much if anyone asks me.

"I'm telling you to get lost, Leah. I didn't ask for you like this. I wanted Lauren. I'm not like you, Leah. I might want to f*ck you, but I don't want you. I'm not waiting for you. Can't you tell?"

Meanwhile, Leah is confident and strong in this book, which I did like. She doesn't give up on Hansel, even when he's being a d*ck.

"Do you think you have to be a certain person for me? News flash, Hansel-Edgar-whoever you are. I'm not the same girl I used to be, either."

At some point, they both give in and have sex, of course.

"I don't want to hear a word of protest, Gretel. You came here on your own, knowing everything you know; you're mine and I will treat you how I will."

And after that...BOOM! All of a sudden Hansel is a completely different person! All caring and sweet and mushy!

Thank God my eyes didn't pop out of their sockets after all the eye-rolling.

P.S: I have a solid theory on who Shelly is and what all the flashbacks really meant. I hope I'm right, because then it would be one awesome plot twist and this series might win me back!

Alright! I am really enjoying the hell out of this series!!! Each installment is pretty short; but they have packed a punch so far. Yes, there is some hot, sweaty, and kinky sex; but there is so much more too. In book two, we get more of a glimpse into Hansel/Luke's past, and believe me..there are a few shockers that had me speechless! I am definitely caught up in this dark fairytale, and can't wait to get onto book three. I am sad that Luke doesn't seem to feel he is good enough for Leah; but when you catch a glimpse into his past, you for sure understand the battle that he has going on inside. Again, I don't want to say too much. But this is a great serial, and I am going full speed ahead to the next book!

Read a book based on a fairy tale (part 3 of 4)

I admit I liked this one better than the second installment of this series, but I have still decided to take a bit of a breather before I start part 4. This series is just too much. The drama. The hysterics. The abuse. The pouting. The tortured act. I just felt strangled with all of it for most of the book.

I still have the same problems with Hansel and Leah who decide (after a TON of superfluous drama) to take a road trip to Mother's house.

Or rather Hansel decides to go to Mother's house and Leah whines until he lets her tag along. And then she pouts a lot because he won't talk to her. In fact Hansel pretty much epitomizes one of my favorite Abraham sayings the whole way to Colorado and to Mother's house.

They stop overnight at a hotel and of course they have sex.
Ok......really hot sex.

Sure Leah. the guy has abused you and treated you like shit all damn day, but at night, you are just absolutely gagging for it. Puh-lease!

And after the sexy times, Hansel does a total 180 and then he's caring and sweet and wonderful and attentive and ALL ABOUT LEAH.

Which he definitely wasn't the day before.

And then there is a cliffhanger (which I'm pretty sure I guessed the ending to already) and book 4 is the conclusion.

Can you see why I'm not dropping my panties for this guy?

2.5 stars.

I think this may have been the better book in this series, they all run together at this point. And that's why I hate serials. How am I supposed to remember what happened in each part of the serial? That's like asking if I remember what happened in chapter ___. Anyway, seeing how I think this was the least annoying of the 4, I'll give it a 3.

More way fucked history is slowly revealed about the time Leah & Hansel spent with Mother. Lots discovered about Hansel's unknown past. I see how this is going to overlap and yield an "omg, how is that possible" moment for Leah.

Leah is a Miss Bossypants in this book and Hansel is a rabid wounded animal trying to escape her. They're both super fucked up and need therapy, not more kinky sex. It's a PTSD party.

**** 4.5 Hansel Secrets Stars ****

Oh this series is just good. Ella James has twisted a fairy tale of lies and secrets and holding out on us until that 4th book!!

"Nothing that I crave can happen in real life. The longing for her is enough to drive the breath out of my lunges."

Hansel is still fighting he need to have Leah. She has handed herself over to him, but he can't allow her to stay. He is fighting demons of his past that are keeping Leah at arms length.

"I want to make him feel me. Now that I've finally found him. I'm not letting him go without a fight."

Leah is doing everything she can think of to hold on to her Hansel. She feels that she is holding onto him by her fingertips.

As Hansel and Leah confront their past, secrets are sliding to the surface and are about to be revealed.

The third installment is filled with pain, secrets, anger and dark, mystical houses
or maybe better, magical castles.

Although this book was more of a mandatory issue, explanatory and not as plot packed as the first two, it was rather important to the story's progression. The characters may be a little stale but they are moving to the right direction.

Hansel or Luke, is on the verge to uncover his inner most thoughts and memories and present them as a peace offering to Leah. But he doesn't realise it until the end, so yes there is a big cliffhanger there, again.
He is also extremely hard on her, cold and distant.

Leah on the other hand tries her best, to make him see her true feelings and in the meantime, she soaks up every moment she can spent on Hansel's presence.

So a little bit before the end, they end up in the "House", ready to leave the past behind and
say goodbye to each other maybe forever.

THOUGHTS ABOUT THE BOOK

- Dual POV.
- A huge secret, that has the power to destroy everything Leah thought as true is ready to be reveiled.
- Hansel, finally admits his love for her. In his mind, but still that's a big step for him.
- Shorter than the rest..

So, HANSEL…

Before
”I don’t want to hear a word of protest, Gretel. You came here on your own, knowing everything you know; you’re mine and I will treat you how I will.”

Middle
”Want to say her name. To take her hand. I know for damn sure that she’s not asleep. Why won’t she talk to me?”

After
Beautiful Leah, older now but still herself. Even now, with her skin so pale and her eyes so big, my Leah is a fairy tale. A princess, like I used to tell her.

He knows he shouldn’t have brought her here. But Leah wanted to back to that house. To face her room – the place she was taken to, the place where she was a prisoner but still the same place she met him, the place she fell in love with the boy that is nothing like the man next to her.

The third installment gives you some answers and makes you fear the rest of them. As we get closer to the end, these two travel to the house, the place they both were kept. But Leah still doesn’t know everything and Luke knows he has to tell her the truth. The reason why she was taken. How they are connected. But bringing her back to this place might just break them both.

So here I am on the edge of my seat. Guessing as to what will be revealed in the final book – not knowing if I’ll figure it all out or if Ella is going to shock us with some new revelation that we never saw coming. But what I do know is that she is fucking rocking this series. There is no doubt that this is by far my favorite of her series. There is something far darker and twisted with this tale than she’s given us before. With each story she is getting bolder. I can’t wait for the conclusion of this series!

Really anxious to see how this is going to end ... I don't see how it can possibly work out between these two ... And for the life of me, I can't figure out Hansel's motivation ... I feel about as confused as Leah, maybe more ... But damn! I love it all! So freaking intense ... Yes, I've used that descriptive for each book so far in this serial ... For a reason! Gimme more!!!

This one was pretty useless. Oh goody a book about a car ride of silence. It's like watching fuckin paint dry. The only action we see is a vast assortment of rapid mood swings.
Ella drops her bread crumbs all over this, but really I don't get what is supposed to be so mysterious about it. Really seems rather apparent to me.

And of course it ends in

I suppose I'll read book 4, since it's so short. Hopefully there will be some redeeming qualities in it, but it might be all downhill from here.

This third book in the series gets darker and more twisted. We get some answers to the mystery of Luke, (Hansel), but not enough. There is a constant push and pull between Leah and Luke. Leah convinces Luke to take her to the place where they were held captive as children but the book leaves us with a huge cliff hanger!!
There is no doubt this is an addicting short series. I'm curious to see how it will all end in book four!!

Well, I didn't see that coming.

Still really good. Quite a cliffy

I actually found myself tearing up a bit on this one, not because some horrible sad thing happened, but because I started to get caught up in the helplessness that she was feeling and the sadness - that she was seeking closure and accepting that this 10 year dream was over. Her prince wasn't going to rescue her.

There is some fast I hate you, I love you, changes that take place and I always feel that's a place that authors drop the ball a little bit. Doing a 180 on emotions without developing the reasons why well enough and she did that with Lucas. From "I don't want your company tonight" to his mouth on her boob and all that comes with that with no preamble.

Now I'm going to do some Serial Griping so feel free to move on and ignore this part

I got to the end and I am breathless.

I feel lost at sea with no anchor.

I am locked in a room with a gingerbread house drawn on the wall.

I can't spoil.

I felt so upside down and discombobulated that I read Hansel 1 and 2 again. On a day when I really should have been focused on housework. Hey, forgive me? I am weak.

Shelley? I know who you are. Re-read of 2 told me. Re-read of 3 absolutely confirmed it

Mother fucking Goose you poisoned bitter old witch.

My mind works in overtime. I swear I am dreaming about this book. Here is the bonkers thing, I got a free copy (I did this is true) I had already pre-ordered (again this is true). I remembered you could switch a gift to a voucher. I went to bed. In my dream Amazon credited me with £1000 for Hansel 3. I am the most honest person you will ever meet. I contacted Amazon to say there must be a mistake, Hansel 3 is good but I wouldn't pay £1000 for it. They told me my gift from Ella wasn't a book, it was a cow. That cow was worth £1000.

Sod a dog next fairy tale Jack and the beanstalk! It has to be. Ella are you sending me subliminal messages?

If I had read 1,2,3 back to back I would give 5 stars, hence I am revising my ratings. One book all volumes would be sublime.

Whoah, this has taken an even darker turn... Although done in snippets only (thank god!), some flashbacks are quite disturbing. And Hansel's inner thoughts break my reading heart. And Leah, just as affected from their horrible past. So broken, these 2... And I feel like there's so much more layers to peel to heal these 2 and get them moving forward. I'm almost afraid for the beginning of bk 4 just seeing how this ended...

So I'm cautiously eager for the last book to come out, I guess I just need to brace myself...

I love this series. Ella James continues the journey of Leah and Hansel/Edgar/Luke with the same brillance and surprise that you come to expect in her books. You feel with these characters and are left dying to read the next installment. If Hansel 4 is anything like 3, I will be glued to it and re-reading by days end. As I have come to expect, Ella James does not disappoint with her excellent writing and gripping stories. I am in awe of her creativity and artful imagination.

Part III was my favorite in the series so far. I liked how everything started to come together. I also liked how the reader gets to see bits and pieces of Ella's fun personality in her characters in this series. Maybe I've never noticed it before, but this was the first time I've seen it. The book ended on a crazy cliffhanger. I'm interested to see how the series wraps up. I have a feeling that after "Hansel" tells "Gretel" what he needs to tell her, the shit is going to hit the fan.

Lucas and Leah take trip to the most emotionally dangerous place from their past. He's been unsuccessful in pushing Leah away and she insists she needs the closure. But some of the things he's hiding inside could hurt them both deeply.
I love Leah's persistence and her love for Lucss regardless of how hard he tries to get rid of her. She's bravely relentless!

Come check out the reviews on my blog Under The Cover

I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the last two. Nothing really happens in this book. Hansel/Luke and Leah spend most of the book in a car driving, and even though it’s the perfect time for them to talk and for us to learn more about the both of them, well they spend the majority of this time in the car not talking to each other.

Things started to get more interesting the moment they arrive at the motel for the night. After that night, Hansel becomes more approachable and a lot less guarded with Leah, which made things more interesting for me.

“He’s full of shit.
He thinks he can fool me?
He thinks I don’t know him?
He’s lying to himself.”

We do get to know a little bit more of Hansel’s story as a kid after he was taken by Mother. Their relationship during the time he was alone with her is definitely twisted and even though nothing is really described or said, well it gave me the creeps.

And from what we read in this book, it seems there is a little more behind Leah’s abduction than we thought.

“Leah is a fairy tale.
A princess…
I know I’m not her prince.
I’m not the happy ending for her…
The goal is not to keep my princess.
I brought her here to set her free.”

So even though I didn’t enjoy this book as much as the last two because there isn’t much action or revelations in this one, the bits we do learn and the last page of the book still left me curious to read the last part of the story and finally get the answers to my questions.

“It wasn’t supposed to be this way. I wasn’t supposed to tell her, but I have to.”

Oh No No No! I can't wait for the next book!
We pick up right where left off. Hansel aka Edgar has decided not to take Leah to Mother's house. He's become cold and distant. Leah doesn't give up. She want her Hansel.

"I want to touch him. I want to make him feel me. Now that I finally found him, I'm not letting him go without a fight."

Edgar does anything he can to push Leah away. He wants her gone. Leah shares her demons with Edgar trying to convince him that she's not a good girl. We learn a lot more about Edgar's past from his flashbacks. A little more is revealed about Shelly. We discover that his relationship with Mother is WARPED! Leah finally convinces Edgar to bring her to Mother's house. She wants closure. We are left with Edgar having a flashback that will rock Leah's world (and mine). I really, really need the next installment. Ella James knows how to keep us on our seats.

Lies and truths mingled work better. This third part is so thrilling and dark.

It was so painful to read those awful words that Hansel throws at Leah. He's trying to protect himself from feeling too much, and protect her from his messed life. Alas, it was so sad to watch his rejection, his cold insults pouring over Leah. She's so alone I could feel it in my bones.

And he keeps hurting her, breaking her heart over and over because she can't accept that what they had is over and never mean a thing.

God, it was so painful to read, to feel all of that.

There is o much sadness in the words that envelope you and such you into this twisted relationship. Leah wants to get Hansel back from the past because she's never forgotten him even though he's linked to traumatic events. She's always been looking for him. Whereas Hansel flees from her to keep Leah from discovering who he really is.

Then, when all seems lost, they strike a deal. A stroll down memory lane that could either break or liberate Leah forever.

It was gloriously wicked and intensely erotic. Nothing prepared me, though, for that mind-blowing cliffhanger that opened up a new black hole in this fairy tale universe.

OMG! Hansel, you are going to kill me!

I have finally found something different to get me out of my book funk! I highly recommend this series if your looking for something unique or apart from the norm of erotica. I so devoured these first three serial books and can't wait to get my hands on book #4, coming out December 1st according to Ella's Facebook page,

I love the character development with Hansel. And the idea of using fairy tale characters is brilliant and original. I love the way Ms. James can easily draw you right into these characters minds. This series switches POVs between both Lucas and Leah (Hansel & Gretel) so you get to feel both of their emotions as the story progresses.

I can't say enough about Hansel, other then you should give this one a shot if you are an erotic romance reader! :)
