A System-designed world chooses him to defend it. Russell Logan was a good cop framed and on his way to prison. He wasn’t looking forward to the reception he’d get from the criminals he’d sent there over the years.
Luckily Ex-Terra, a cutting-edge tech company, presents him with an alternative — do his time virtually.
They have created Virtua, the first digital fantasy world of its kind, with the help of some quantum computers and an A.I. System named MOTHER.
One problem. Ex-Terra doesn't realize how well they’ve built.
Logan enters this new world thinking it was the smart choice. But MOTHER has plans for the officer to protect her children from the Real-Life invasion she knows is coming.
It won't take long for Logan to see that this isn't a game at all… It's real. And the consequence of failure is death.
Don't miss the start of this unique spin on LitRPG about a man thrust into a fantasy world that is more real than anybody ever imagined it would be. Sometimes, it doesn't pay to be the chosen one.
I have enjoyed book one for several reason beyond the writing style. Character development is excellent. The story is truly fun as the right moves are done by the protagonist in building a future in a new world. Looking forward to book 2.
There's no death sentence for those sent to Virtua's Virtual Reality Prison Program, but otherwise the concept is similar to that of the Manga/Anime "Sword Art Online" except there is no "win" condition which allows the inmates to leave the simulation. There are also elements of the story similar to Steven King's short story adapted into the movie "The Shawshank Redemption," since the main character is an innocent man sent into a virtual prison world by the corporate legal systems which ruled his IRL existence.
This is an excellent example of the LitRPG genre, but downplays the statistical side of the genre enough that fans of the more traditional fantasy genre may also enjoy reading it. Thus the excellent rating I have chosen for it.
I really wanted to give this book more stars but because of missing elements I could not
First of all the pros This is a very flushed out world, well written and well developed. The MC is likable and the side characters in this book are well written. and I actually grew to like them. There are great heartwarming and laugh out loud elements in the story. unfortunately, here comes the cons. For some unknown reason, the author has decided to call this a lit RPG book, but the RPG elements are barely there or missing entirely. For example, the MC gains levels, but his stats do not change. He doesn’t grow stronger, he doesn’t get hit points, health points, Other abilities or magic until later in the book. the MC is charged with protecting a world by getting stronger, I am SMH because I don’t see how the MC is to do this when none of his stats change. the book is long and maybe that’s the problem The story meanders off and develops as a soft core pornographic romance novel with mystery and detective elements and very little RPG progression. if the author wishes to write a soft core porno story, then he she they should throw out the RPG elements altogether. It makes this book seem like a bait and switch. if you dear reader are looking for a solid action packed RPG book, this isn’t it if you are looking for a soft-core porno with some pseudo RPG elements, than this book is for you. Like I said, I enjoyed the story because of the way the characters are written what I did not enjoy was the lack of RPG elements and I think this. book will suffer for the lack of them. Be warned there are sexual situations that do not make this book suitable for younger audiences
Setenced to Life is an interesting take on the LitRPG genre. It's very similar to Sentenced to Troll, only this one has the main character in the world full time. I won't spoil the story by giving a synopsis, but suffice it to say that the main character finds himself in quite the predicament when certain choices about his future appear, and after reading the first few chapters, you already know what he'll choose, even before the options show up at the end of the book. Still, as predictable as that portion of the story is, I still liked it, and intend to read the next one when it comes out in December. I liked this book, and can easily recommend it for those who enjoy their LitRPG with a healthy dose of reality sprinkled in.
Pretty decent story line, nothing terribly original, but still entertaining. The writing is ok other than the desperate need for a good proofreader. The middle turns into too many chapters of sex and sexual innuendo for a quarter of the book as the MC ends up with 2 wives. It finally gets back to the main story line about 3/4’s of the way through so it’s tolerable, but if I’d know about the middle I’d have skipped this book.
Ok this is getting old another book where the mc is falling in love with the first woman that talks to him!! Instead of focusing on training or information that will keep him alive he is after a woman. This is not a LitRpg book but a romance book disguised as a LitRpg!!
I truly enjoyed this book! Looking forward to the release of the 2nd book in the series. This genre is new to me and the author added just enough gaming lingo for a newbie like me to stay interested. I loved his descriptive writing form and the building of each character. This author left me with vivid mind pictures and characters who I will enjoy seeing again!
