Only two riders can command an ice dragon... That was all too apparent for Steinn, a Viking warrior who must find his true love, the woman meant to conquer both his heart and his ice dragon. Drifa wants nothing more than to complete her training as a Woman of Frost, but she is called to join a band of warriors to the evil force that has fallen from the stars. To fight this new foe, they must forget their differences and reunite as man and woman. But for two Viking warriors, waging war is easier than forging peace.
Shawntelle Madison is a web developer who loves to weave words as well as code. She’d never admit it, but if asked she’d say she covets and collects source code. After losing her first summer job detassling corn, Shawntelle performed various jobs—from fast-food clerk to grunt programmer to university webmaster. Writing eccentric characters is her most favorite job of them all. On any particular day when she’s not surgically attached to her computer, she can be found watching cheesy horror movies or the latest action-packed anime. She lives in Missouri with her husband and children.
This has dragons, witches, Vikings and other world beings. The Viking chief needs his bonded mate to be able to bond with the ice dragon. His mate is a frost witch who made a vow to the witches. She has to decide which means more to her while fighting the other world and protecting their home. I enjoyed this and look forward to reading more by this author.
Taming the Viking’s Dragon is the story of Steinn and Drifa and how they come together in love to tame Steinn’s ice dragon and save their land from evil creatures threatening it. Years ago, Steinn and Drifa were supposed to get married but she left him behind when she received the calling to join the Women of the Frost, witches who help to keep bad climate away. Only virgins can join them. Needless to say Steinn is still bitter about it when they meet again as warriors from all around the land and their dragons are enlisted to fight against the alien invaders. Steinn’s dragon however is an ice dragon and thus made to be tamed only by a mated pair, before that he only rebels against most of his master’s commands. The world the author created was interesting but confusing at the same time. I would have liked a bit more background into its structure and reality. [spoilers] The one thing that I found to be disappointing was that although it took a pair to tame the ice dragon, the woman wasn’t a necessity beyond the mating. In the final fight against the invaders, Drifa is left behind at Steinn’s request, because he apparently couldn’t live if anything happened to her. [/spoilers]. Overall, I thought it was a pretty okay read and I might try reading from this author again.
This was a good romance. Steinn is a warrior who must defend his land. When he is called along with the other leaders to defend the whole of the land, he is forced into interactions with the woman who broke his heart. Drifa had to leave Steinn, it was the only way to save her family. Now she has to face the fact that she broke his heart and that neither has ever moved on from the other. I enjoyed the start where Steinn cannot control his dragon in the least. The interaction between Steinn and Drifa was difficult at first, which fits the story. After that, with the fighting and race against time to save the land, they worked better together. Overall, the story was good and entertaining. It was great how even though she wasn't supposed to still want him, Drifa couldn't deny him either. Oh and all the dragons were awesome, and the descriptions of them were entertaining. This was a 4/5 for me. I really liked the dragon! Thank you to the author for the review copy of this book. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.
Absolutely loved this book and would totally recommend it and hope that others enjoy it as much as I did. A dragon rider who needs a partner to properly control his Dragon and the woman who he loved. But can he forgive that she left him to become a Woman of the Frost? Together they can protect the people but she can lose her magic if she chooses to mate him.
The blurb is good but what it doesn't tell you is that Steinn's dragon does not listen to him and that it take 2 riders to control him! Steinn and Drifa were to be married until she was called to the North and take vows with the Women of the Frost. But their country is invaded, they are called to work together and in doing so they forge a new bond. Knurre, the dragon is a hoot!
I read a lot of paranormal romances. After awhile, you begin to see more commonalities than differences and crave something from an author that takes it in a different direction. You don't read stories about Vikings riding dragons thru the skies to protect towns from invaders.
Steinn and Drifa thought they would be married and be living their happily ever after. It didn't happen that way and Drifa was forced to leave him to join the Woman of the Frost. Invaders are destroying the lands and everyone is asked to supply a fighter to defend them from these attacks. Steinn has an ice dragon he brings to the fight while Drifa brings her ice magic.
Steinn is still very angry over Drifa's abandonment and does not make working together easy. The attraction is still there but is the love just as present? Even if it is, can Drifa abandon the Women of the Frost and what consequences will they all face if she does?
I thoroughly enjoyed this very different take on dragons and vikings. I praise the author for being original and trying something very new. The characters are very approachable and vivid thanks to her writing. The dragons' personalities are also clearly captured and lead to some amusement.
I was given a copy of 'Taming the Viking's Dragon' from Shawntelle, in exchange for an honest review.
I just finished reading 'Taming the Viking's Dragon' & I am in AWE of the story I just finished. I LOVE escaping into alternate realities about lands & people different to the one I live in. I felt myself get dragged into the history not only of the people in general, but the also of the lead characters. This was my introduction into the writings of Shawntelle & I will say I was entertained.
Steinn has never been able to forget his intended Drifa, who just after he found a white dragon to ride, left to join the Witches of the White. 3 years pass & outworlders some to conquer their planet, bringing Stein & Drifa together again.
Definitely will be keeping an eye out for anymore books from Shawntelle, I would love to read more about the white dragons & their riders or even about the riders of the red dragons.
A little ripper of a story. It has everything hot vikings, sorcery, aliens, and dragons of course. A little of how to tame your dragon meets alien invasion. A vastly undermanned dragon guard fights off an highly advanced invading force. The only hope - a small fleet of dragons led by Steinn. Knurre is his dragon - the only white amongst the few reds. And unfortunately white dragons require a mated pair of riders. Enter Drifta, long lost love of Steinn and out of his reach as she is a virginal 'Woman of Frost'. Can the two, along with their tiny contingent fight off the evil invaders? Well that would spoil the ending. However, the story is a fast paced, dramatic and in places very funny story. Well worth putting on your to be read list. A super fun read.
I liked this book I've never really read books about dragon riders so it was a new experience for me. Steinn he likes to push buttons, "so if I kiss your neck again, will you place my hand elsewhere?" he asked, his voice low and silky." He's a very dominant man where his girl is concerned, "I want to mark you as mine right here," he breathed." I liked how the dragon had his own voice, and how irritated Steinn could sometimes get with him, "the dragon winked at her. "Ladies first." Steinn got on and couldn't resist mumbling about damn effing stubborn lizards." I can't wait to see if this author does anything for the other dragon riders.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, the author finds the right words to pull you into the story, and imagine yourself there, experiencing everything first hand.
Steinn is a very gruff persona when we first meet him, it's not till we get further into the story that we find out why. Drifa after her calling still longs for the man that captured her heart from a very early age.
When these two come together after 3 years apart, the animosity towards each other is apparent, as the story develops we know why, and see how the story unfurls is extraordinary.
A well written fantasy. The characters are strong and well defined. The storyline is strong and interesting. I was impressed with how easily the tale flowed. I loved the humor brought into the story by the Dragon's personality. The story contains romance and adventure. I will be interested in reading more of the author's work. Anyone who enjoys Fantasy and Romance will enjoy this great new read!
I am so disappointed. It took forever (almost halfway through the book) to see any romantic interaction between the two main characters. Not worth it and the book was free.
Vikings meet Sci Fi meet Romance. I was really impressed with my first of Ms Madison's books. In what is relatively a short amount of pages you get a whole story. I cared about the characters of Steinn and Drifa and their and their people's plight.
