This audio-method of learning a new language was less overwhelming than previous attempts to learn my language. Without pages of unknown characters and sentence structure to sit through, I could practice basic sentences until they became familiar to me. When I heard questions and pronouns in the workplace, I finally vaguely knew what was said.

Upon completing 3 of 4 Pimsleur CDs, I grew discouraged in how little I was retaining. The volume of vocabulary in a new language seems insurmountable. No matter how much time I was devoting to this learning program, there still seemed an infinite more vocab to learn. I continue to feel ill prepared.

This was the first in a series of learning to put 20 hours behind a new skill. TED podcasts have told me that the first 20 hours of a skill show the largest Delta improvement/time. While this was only a 4 hour course, I listened to it for 10 hours.
