Set on a path toward motherhood, will Adrian find a home in the Land of the Dead? Will Daemous look past duty and develop true romantic feelings for his Lyrian consort? Discover their fate in Eres, the first book of The All-Mighty Universe series.
I can't put my finger on it but something feels off about this book. I see a broad picture, but the more I think about details and logic of the world the more questions I have.
for starters, I didn't like backwards way to present information to reader. For example, it said that mc was taught only info about 2 out of 4 races. Then he became slave and in library found a book about his own race and read some of it. Then author again says that mc was only taught about 2 races and only then reveals that he was forbidden from entering the library so that's why he couldn't learn more when he was prince. Because of that he appeared not interested in learning more but races when he was prince, but turns out he couldn't.
Also I don't understand why there is universal law in the world that if you catch one of Lyrians you can enslave them? Only Lyrians treated that way. Why? Why is there no respect for race that can magically heal? I understand in Tagian kingdom the king hates them because queens cheated on him with Lyrian. But other kingdoms? Hello? They capture Lyrians only because they pretty?
Also everything is told, but there is hardly any showings how characters feel about situations and things. you'd think becoming a slave after being a prince is pretty big deal, right? But there is 3 years time jump and no mentions of what mc thinks about it or what consequences were for the queen, what mc thinks of his father for doing this to him? He is just like "anyway, I'm a slave 3 years already."
Lots of setting up scenes as if author directs film on set and everything must appear where it belongs. But feelings were forgotten. It lacks something. not sure if it is logic or soul or more explanations how world works.
I really enjoyed reading this fantasy romance novel. I appreciate the author's writing style; there were poetic moments, but overall, the prose was very clear, allowing me to gain a good understanding of what was happening. I liked the main character, Adrian, and thought his love story with Daemous was the perfect balance of angsty and sweet. I also thought the world-building was interesting without being overwhelming. If you enjoy tropes such as arranged marriage, low self-esteem, misunderstandings, hurt/comfort, a love interest who worships their husband, and a sweet ending, then you will love this book. I will definitely read this story again! 5/5 Stars.
