I Hate It When They Don’t Stay Dead: A Short Story

Rate this book
When the dead won’t rest, the living pay the price.

When Vincent inherits his estranged father’s decrepit doll shop, he’s desperate enough to see it as salvation. Drowning in debt to a violent loan shark, he needs money fast, and the antique shop might be his only way out. But there’s something wrong with the place. The dolls that line the dusty shelves seem too lifelike, their glassy eyes following his every move. Strange sounds echo through the night. And Vincent can’t shake the feeling he’s not alone.

As his creditors close in and the shop’s dark secrets surface, Vincent realises that some inheritances come with a price and some debts can never be repaid.

What is Wrong With the Dolls?

Small backstory:

Vincent inherits his dad's doll store after his dad passes away but Vincent is not prepared for what lies within the store as the dolls seem to have a mind of their own and when Vincent has problems with a loan shark and his crew of bad men Vincent sees first hand what happens when you mess with the dolls!

That is about all I can hand out with a small taste so if you want to know more then go read this short story!

Thoughts:

This was my first time reading this author and I was intrigued by the book cover of creepy dolls so I decided to read this short story of horror.

I was glad that I did as I really enjoyed the story even though there wasn't much background on the doll store or the character Vincent but this story kind of packs a small punch too with some doll activity. I will be checking out more of this author's works in the future as I want to see what else he has out there. Giving this short story four "Dangerous Dolls" stars!

The story unfortunately lacked a lot of character depth, and while I did finish the short story I really wanted to see more depth, more description and really get to settle in to that feeling of horror. I think that with more revision and workshopping this could be a great piece, but it read more like a rough draft currently with some really great ideas. Would be interested in giving this author another go as they continue to master the craft though. Writing isn’t easy after all, and I look forward to seeing where this author will go.

Doll Horror

I was all settled in for some creepy atmospheric doll horror and yes, there is some blood and guts, however the story just seemed to lack any depth or character development. Just read kind of flat for me. Sorry

What you inherit

When you are a child you think your parents will protect you. When your father is evil and the child becomes a man his parents evil deeds go to you and you suffer for it. Very good read

I expected more from this. It was good but not something I would read again.
