I spent over 20 years in the USAF, being stationed at many bases and pulling temporary duty (TDY) at many more - including Kunsan - but I never saw any base as bad as Kunsan was when Col. Moench arrived. The conditions he faced were appalling. I found it hard to believe the Air Force would ignore any base as badly as they ignored Kunsan, and especially not one that was on the front lines at a very hot period of the "cold" war. Col. Moench did an amazing job of turning that base around in a very short time. This should be required reading to anyone faced with a difficult leadership challenge.
