Fifteen years ago Natalie found her sister lying dead in a lily pond. Now she’s written a book based on the murder. In every interview she gives, she talks about the diary her sister kept, which lists her lovers under code names.
Natalie’s intention is to lure the murderer into the open but, as she’s about to find out, you can’t pick and choose which secrets are revealed - and which ones stay hidden.
Because when the first of her sister’s ex-lovers is killed, it doesn’t take Natalie long to realise she’s not the only one out for revenge.
So who will catch the murderer first? And who will end up being caught?
Nemesis is a murder mystery with a little bit of romance and humour.
Most of my stories are set in small villages filled with quirky characters. These are partly inspired by the places I’ve lived in over the years, although the characters are straight out of my imagination! I currently live in Wales, close to a famous library and two ruined castles. My husband thinks we moved here by accident.
My first published novel was Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, which was a finalist in Poolbeg’s Write a Bestseller competition. As well as nine novels, I’ve written short stories for women’s magazines such as Take a Break and My Weekly. Before becoming a full-time writer, I worked as an administrative officer for the police.
When I’m not writing, I enjoy visiting big old houses, which I use as inspiration for the houses in my novels, and reading other people’s books when I ought to be writing my own…
This is the first book I have read by Louise Marley. The cover is beautiful and intriguing - I do like a good cover! I really enjoyed this book, it has mystery, murder, suspense and obsession, all of which I love.
It is full of twists and I liked the way that some are revealed along the way, not all at the end.
I enjoyed reading this from the very first page and particularly when I read the latter half - it whizzed by so fast because I desperately wanted to find out who the murderer was, why Natalie's mother was so cold, and why her father was so mean.
The characters have a lot of secrets! I liked the writing, the descriptions are vivid and give a good impression of the setting of the story.
A really absorbing book and I will definitely look out for more books like this by Louise Marley.
I was attracted to this book by the premise: a woman whose sister was murdered years earlier writes a book telling a thinly veiled version of the story. Whilst publicising the novel, she repeatedly mentions a diary her sister kept up until her death, referring to her lovers by code names. Her plan is to lure the killer out of hiding… The set-up promises high drama and tension, and the book certainly delivers. The story also has some love interest, delivered with a light touch, which I enjoyed. A great mix of thrills, tension and relationships.
I gave this a good shot but really couldn't get on with it and packed it in at 37%. It was getting way too baffling and confusing and I glazed over and just lost all interest in it. It has some niggling errors as well which did its cause no good at all-random words added or missed out of sentences being the most annoying. Such as "...he pushed his back the hood of his coat" and "...she made a list every man she slept with" and "she sent you flowers with note that says" and "I've got the point where I've had enough" (and so had I) !! The men featured were all horrible-violent or liars it seemed. However, it was the confusion with the characters thar really wore me down.....brothers and cousins, husbands and wives and then PAs....made it too much like hard work.
This was the first book I have read by Louise Marley. I found it a bit confusing at times, and thought perhaps there were too many characters that didn't really add to the story. I still cannot understand why the heroine's father wanted to kill her, or why her mother hated her so much - it wasn't really made very clear. I can't say that this is on my favourite books list, but I did enjoy it. I will try another of Louise Marley's books in the future.
Although this is a bit slow to start with, the pace soon builds, and the author delivers a thoroughly satisfying thriller/murder/mystery/ story. It's very visual in style, just as her work "Breathless" is. Just the sort of thing that could easily be adapted for tv, and would make an enjoyable evening's viewing!
Wow, this was full of twists and turns, some I got, and more that I didn't. Fifteen years after her sisters murder Natalie claims to have her sisters diary, and that's when the cold case blows wide open again. Murder, betrayal, adultery and more follow. A very enjoyable read.
Some of the writing seemed good but overall I found the plot rather confusing and the ending was strange. I have read far worse books but overall I think its a 2 1/2 star read.
Fantastic! Great murder mystery/thriller. Who killed Sarah?? So many suspects it was impossible to tell the good guys from the bad. I couldn't put it down! Ms. Marley is a mistress of suspense!
