Tales from the moe.Republic

Rate this book
Welcome to the moe.Republic Hotel - where the lives and the legends from the Lost Kingdom of Moose Harbor, Maine, spring to life! Like Casey McNugent, who bets the farm selling elephant semen for profit - Porter Gibson Digit, who changed history the day he 'invented' the finger - and brother Kevin and Sparky, who mysteriously disappear into the cosmos! The characters, their stories, are chronicled by 'brother John' in letters to his brother Rob, the bass player for the real-life rock band moe., who reluctantly backs the hotel. From a haunted mansion, to Timmy Tucker's meteor bash, to a cursed pirate treasure, John's misadventures and comic tales - the magic of Moose Harbor - will leave you laughing and wondering how long until all paths lead to the moe.Republic. Tales from the moe.Republic is part folktale, part comic travelogue, and a hundred percent old Yankee humor.

There aren't many books that can make me laugh out loud. I'm a quite type of guy. This one did by blending in jokes about moe. and in-jokes about Maine. That was perfect. I do thiknk the structure of lop sided correspondence interfered with the pace of the book, and the ability for the stories to stretch out. I realize that some of these letters were republished from the moe. newsletter, but the stories were clearly better when the letter format was treated as an after thought.

I'm a moe. fan so I'm biased. Although there's really very little about moe. in this novel. Anyway, there are some really funny stories mixed with some genuine suspense, and even horror. Mr Derhak is a talented writer. He's also on my friend list. I look forward to his second book.
