What a wonderful book! The story was genuine, entertaining, captivating and - in a word - magical. You will be drawn into the lives of the characters and their stories. This book makes it easy to compare Painted Creek with those magical stories in your own life. Was able to read this book as an Author Review Copy before the publishing date later this month. Can’t wait to own it and buy copies for my family and friends!
The Magic of Painted Creek is a beautifully written, emotionally rich story that wraps you in warmth from the very first page. It’s the kind of book that makes you want to curl up with a blanket, a hot drink, and lose yourself in its cozy magic.
This novel masterfully captures the feeling of longing for loved ones who’ve passed, all while weaving a heartfelt tale of self-discovery, connection, and healing. The quirky, witty banter between characters adds a delightful charm and keeps the tone balanced between heartfelt and lighthearted.
The imagery is especially powerful—so vivid and detailed that you can practically see the paintings described and feel the comforting presence of Mabel’s Grams’ home. The sense of place is intimate and inviting, grounding the magical elements in a world that feels touchable and real.
If you love character-driven stories with emotional depth, a hint of magic, and an atmosphere that feels like home, The Magic of Painted Creek is a must-read. It’s a gem for fans of cozy fantasy, magical realism, or anyone who loves stories that honor memory, creativity, and the quiet magic in everyday life.
The Magic of Painted Creek is a tender, enchanting tale that blends small town charm with just a touch of the mystical. Robyn Kilgore crafts Mabel Morrison’s return to her grandmother’s home not as a simple inheritance story, but as a journey of self discovery, courage, and belonging.
What makes this novel stand out is its layered portrayal of Mabel, not just as an ambitious young artist, but as someone learning to reconcile her practical ambitions with the quieter magic that has always been a part of her. Painted Creek feels alive, its people vivid and imperfect, its secrets humming just beneath the surface. Kilgore’s prose is warm and inviting, and the themes of legacy, found family, and personal courage feel authentic rather than sentimental
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I really like the author’s writing style. She is good at describing a scene, both the surroundings and the people, physically and emotionally. I enjoyed learning about all the various characters, even the mom to whom you wanted to say “back off!’, but I understood where she was coming from. Painted Creek sounds like a place I would love to visit.
I had the pleasure of meeting the author at a local book-signing event. That is where I found out that she painted the picture that is on the book cover! Isn’t that neat!
I hope there is a second book on the horizon. I will definitely read it!
This book was truly magical. When Mabel's grandmother passes away, Mabel returns to the small town to assess her inheritance. She finds so much more than closing everything up and just selling it, she finds herself and the life she was meant to have. I can't even describe how beautiful this book was. Every page read, I felt more and more immersed into the very heartbeat of this story. I'm guessing this book will be one of my top 10 this year. Although, it will stay with me for my lifetime.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The author’s writing style is engaging and vivid she really brings the scenes and characters to life. Painted Creek feels like a place I’d love to visit, and even the complicated characters were written with depth and understanding. I also loved learning that the author painted the cover art herself such a special touch! I truly hope there’s a sequel coming, because I’ll be first in line to read it.
This book was very good. It is the first novel by this author. It took me awhile longer to read but only because I have been very busy planning for an event on Saturday...not because I didn't like it. I enjoyed it very much. Small town, young girl torn between her desires and not upsetting her mom. Usually I read Christian fiction and this book was not but still great fiction.
I was lucky enough to be an ARC reader for this book and when I tell you I loved it, I LOVED IT! It took me through so many emotions and I wanted to know how it ended but at the same time I didn't want it to end!!
I don’t usually read fiction, but this book had me hooked from the first chapter. You’ll want a cozy blanket and tissues when you curl up to read this one. I thought of so many woman in my life while reading this and plan to gift it to each one of them, it was so moving!
The Magic of Painted Creek is exactly what I hoped it would be—cozy, heartfelt, and quietly enchanting. Robyn Kilgore has such a soft, steady hand with emotional depth. This story doesn’t shout to be heard; it leans in gently and says, “you belong here.” Between the small-town charm, the watercolor artistry, the found family themes, and touch of magic, this book has all the ingredients I crave in a feel-good read. It’s the kind of story that sneaks up on you in the best way: comforting, but also layered with growth and hope. I bought the paperback even though I already had the e-book, because I knew I wanted to feel this one in my hands. My 13-year-old daughter has already decided she wants to read it, too, so I may have to fight her for it. 😂
If you’re a mood reader looking for a light but meaningful escape this summer, The Magic of Painted Creek is one to add to your stack.
