One More Secret

Rate this book
One. Two. Three.

Three masked men. Three guns. Two nights to endure them until they can collect what they came for.

When Rachel is summoned to her step-grandparents’ house to collect her twin sisters, all she knows is that her weekend plans are ruined. She has no idea she’s walking into a game already set in motion.

The prize… money. The perk… Rachel.

She wasn’t supposed to be there; she was never part of the plan, but walking away isn’t an option for anyone.

Faced with three armed men, identifiable only by the numbers attached to their hoodies, Rachel does her best to follow the rules while ignoring the pull of the One. She tries to fight her attraction to the danger, but she’s her father’s daughter, after all, no matter how hard she battles with her past.

When One presents her with a choice, to feel pleasure or pain, truths are revealed, old wounds ripped open, and the line between enemies and lovers blurs.

With everything she thought she knew about her life torn to shreds, Rachel must hold it together, play her part to prevent bloodshed… keep one more secret.

About the author

Roxanna C. Revell

6 books95 followers
Roxanna C Revell is a British indie author of a mixed bag of books. She writes the stories that come to her: romance, dark romance, thriller, dystopian, crime families – you name it! Regardless of the genre or focus, you can guarantee twists, steam, and all the feels.

Originally from Nottingham, she enjoyed drinking way too much with colleagues in London before getting married, pregnant, and moving to the Bedfordshire countryside.

Whilst on maternity leave, she decided to answer that nagging question: does she have what it takes to write a book? The answer to that question is her debut, Because of Hattie.

Now well and truly committed to sharing the stories in her head with the world (‘world’ might be a bit ambitious), she writes when she’s not at work, chasing her two Wildlings, and not too wiped out to focus.

Her books contain bad language, kink, and triggers, and will always be 18+.

booktok girlies unite

This book is perfect for the booktok girlies that are hyped up on masked men right now. The book reads decent. Some spiciness mixed in with violence. Enemies to lovers for sure, and a short read if you want to add another book to your already read list.

A massive strong 4.5 🌟 and I'm only holding out on the 5 🌟 because I wanted more.

Three masked men. Three guns. Two nights.
And a story that completely hooked me from the first page.

One More Secret was riveting from start to finish. The pacing is tight and consistent never choppy, and the dual timeline is handled beautifully. We begin in the past, with that delicious did-they-didn’t-they tension, then jump eight years forward. The flashbacks aren’t filler; they’re purposeful. Each one answers questions you didn’t even realise you were asking, deepening the emotional impact and sharpening the motives of the characters.

Roxanna C. Revell writes exceptionally strong female leads. Rachel is vulnerable without ever being written as a victim. She is resilient, sharp, and quietly powerful! A survivor, not a caricature of strength. Even when placed in an awful, high-stakes situation, you trust her. You know she’ll get through it, and you root for her every step of the way. Her growth on the page feels earned and authentic.

The chemistry? Intense. The tension? Delicious.
And yes the spice was spicing.

Nate… well. Nate can absolutely kidnap me any day of the week. Enough said.

What also stood out to me was how the themes around family, absence, and identity were handled. As someone who grew up with an absent father, I deeply appreciated the way this was written; with honesty, nuance, and emotional intelligence. Rachel gets a kind of resolution many of us didn’t, and you genuinely love that for her.

The twist at the end completely caught me off guard, and the epilogue had me holding my breath. This was so close to a five-star read for me - the only reason it isn’t is because it’s a novella. I wanted more. And honestly, that’s the best complaint a reader can have.

Dark romance readers: if you get it, you’ll get it.

Hot damn! Revell has delivered another deliciously dark read in the form of this novella. She had me hooked from the off!

Novellas are not usually my thing - I find them too short, but this one doesn’t come up short in any way. The characters, the setting, the pace: effortlessly brilliant! I really loved getting the back story of the main character and then being flung into the dark chaos of the present tense.

If you’re into dark romance, spice and angst then this is the book for you. You’ll devour it in one; I know I did.

Masked men, kidnapping…this book has it all. Rachel’s character is one you are shouting and cheering for! She is a badass and Nate is deliciously deceptive, and above all morally grey. I don’t want to say too much because I don’t want to give too much away, but get it read - you’ll go on one hell of a hot journey!

The ending was amazing! 🖤 It had my heart pumping and it left me wanting more. Revell has always had a way of getting under my skin and this book was no exception. If you’ve not read any of her work before - get her checked out! You won’t regret it!

Loved receiving this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

When I saw this novella come up as an ARC, I didn't hesitate to sign up. I've read everything Revell has published and she doesn't disappoint.

There's darkness and smut but it always fits. My pet peeve is elements thrown in for the sake of ticking off some dark romance must-haves.

Roxanna goes all in with a plot, not just relying on tried and tested conventions. Her characters act and talk like human beings, they have emotional reactions that make sense and to top it all off - she writes well!!

Which, no offense, I've come to discover isn't a prerequisite for some readers since some of the books and authors that do well are actually fucking awful. We're all allowed an opinion...

Back to this novella. I. Loved. It.

Love the London setting, the lingo, the people, the connections and the darkness - check your trigger warnings.

It felt the perfect length for the story Roxanna crafted with enough time given to the things that mattered, so even though it was fast paced, it never felt rushed or lacking.

Highly recommend.

This book swept me up in its grasp and didn't let go until I was finished! From the first page until the last, I was fully engrossed. Nate and Rachel were fire. From their back story to the present, I was invested in every second of it. I cannot say enough good things, and I could not recommend this book enough. It may only be a novella, but it's packed with tension, angst, heart, and darkness that will completely consume you!

I haven’t read anything from Roxanna in a few years and it’s fair to say I enjoyed being back with her books!

As always, very well written and very engaging. My only criticism is that it is a novella and not a whole book - I would’ve loved to have read a longer version! The characters were amazing - so in depth and I felt like I was living their life with them. I need to know what happens with Nate and Rachel - I just hope that I can either read a follow up or pick Roxanna’s brains about what happens to her characters!

Fast paced, easy to read and engaging - I loved it.

Honestly yall...I truly didn't know what to think during this whole novella as it kept taking me for a ride! I kept trying to figure out what was going on, where plot twists would be placed, would the ending be like other books. Let me tell you - NOTHING prepared me for all the loops thrown and I loved that. The not knowing is one of my favorite things about reading as I do not care for predictability. Rachel & Nate's love story was a Rollercoaster but it was amazing to read about it - to see how they deal with each other. Roxanna truly gave us dark romance girlies another reason to love the masked men ;)

This book was fast paced and the perfect length. I really liked the connection between Nate and Rachel and found it interesting how they navigated it during the robbery. I thought the romance parts were done perfectly and I highly recommend to lovers of thrillers with romance mixed in.

This book was so good. I liked that we first met Rachel as teenager because we got to see her connection to Nate. It helped to understand them better in present time. I liked both of them but I think I liked Rachel a bit more. I liked that she was pretty strong heroine and she was ready to do whatever it takes to keep her sisters safe. Nate didn’t have it easy but he did everything he could to keep her safe.

An ARC was provided in exhange for an honest review.

“What did I just read—and why do I want more?”

Rachel was just there to grab the twins. That’s it…Easy. But, somehow she ends up in the middle of a twisted game with three masked men, all secrets and shadows and suddenly she’s not just a bystander, she’s a piece on the board.

And one of them? Yeah. The way he talks to her? I was blushing. Fully feral. Melting.

This book is mysterious, and weirdly hot in a “I probably shouldn’t be enjoying this but here we are” kind of way.

Spice:🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

HOLYDARKNESSS... this had me damn invested from the opening chapter!

What an intoxicating, delicious dark spice filled book that literally will how you devouring in one sitting! 🥵

The darkness and masked men should not have me in such swoonworthy territory but HOTDAMNIT. Nate is unfrigginreal, and even in the midst of it all still wants Rachel!

Rachel, what a queen, she really holds her own, and although she's got her vunerabilities, she knows what she wants and isn't afraid to back down!

I ABSOLUTELY lived for the masks and how this gave a different effect to the book with mystery, hotness, and steam.

The twins had me howling with laughter, and it honestly is brilliant how Roxanna brings light in the darkness through oneliners and laughter!

The ending, though HOLYGUACAMOLE, I did not see that happening, and damn my heart was in my mouth at what is coming. But I absolutely loved how it all tied together!!🖤🖤

LOVED THIS !!
Such a deliciously dark spicy romance 🔥 I’ve been in a slump for two months and this is the first book to hook me and not let me put it down in a while ✨

Three masked men break in and put Rachel’s little sister in harms way. The only way they can hopefully walk out unscathed is if Rachel does EVERYTHING she is told to do. But little does she know one of these masked men knows more about her than anyone in the world 😈

Does Rachel & her sisters make it out without a scratch? Or does Rachel give into her dark secrets?

Well I loved this book, and our morally grey masked man, Nate is hot AF! The chemistry these two friends to enemies to lovers have is off the charts. They are pulled to each other and destined to be together. The story was layered, with some hot spice, and a love story that goes through some serious trails. With interfering parents, unspoken truths and grunges, this novella packed a punch.

Definitely worth the read 💜
