Jesus, Be The Centerfold: Choosing Covenant Faith Over Airbrushed Christianity

Rate this book
Are You Worshipping Jesus or Just an Image That Works for You?In Jesus, Be the Centerfold, Pastor Phill Tague offers a bold wake-up call to Christians who have settled for comfortable religion instead of covenant relationship. With raw honesty and compelling biblical insight, Tague reveals how many of us have created an "airbrushed version" of Jesus that demands little and transforms less.

Drawing from his own journey through spiritual duplicity, Tague uses the provocative metaphor of "spiritual pornography" to illustrate how we often choose a carefully curated image of Jesus over the real thing. Just as pornography offers the illusion of intimacy without relationship, many Christians settle for the benefits of salvation without the cost of lordship.

This book will change your life if you let it. If you are tired of going through the motions of faith and living with one foot out the door, Phill's words are just the push you need to dive in to a committed, all-in relationship with Jesus. This book does an excellent job of laying out the covenant truths of the Bible and showing us what we are missing out on when we don't surrender our lives and allow Jesus to be our Lord, not just our savior. One of my favorite quotes from this book was, "To be set free to be who God made you to be means letting go of control over who you become and trusting that only He can help you become who you're supposed to be."

If you want a book that beats around the bush and wants to keep your faith complacent and comfortable, don’t read this one. Phill Tague doesn’t sugar coat anything, calling out the modern Western church for how its members often choose comfort over calling, or a contract relationship over a covenant relationship with Jesus. The spiritual pornography illustration he uses throughout is brutally compelling, and honestly, is a message that so many of us are guilty of in some shape or form. So good. Couldn’t recommend it enough!

I started this book yesterday and finished it today. Are you ready to be challenged in a way that makes you want to grow? Phill has given us an easy to read and easy to understand outline of why we would want to choose a REAL relationship with Jesus. My favorite chapters were Unmet Expectations and The Gift of Covenant but there isn't a page I would miss. Thank-you Phill for being obedient and sharing your story and opening us up to the relationship that is offered to all of us through Jesus.

This book is honest, raw, and challenging in all the right ways. It invites you to take a hard look at your relationship with Jesus and ask whether you’ve settled for less than what He truly offers. I finished feeling convicted, but eager to dive deeper and continue evaluating my own relationship with Jesus. Absolutely a must read!
