Using a method taught by an Orthodox Christian priest for almost 20 years, you'll learn the easy way, the right way, how to read the Bible according to the 2000 year practice of the Orthodox Church. Now, using this simple method you'll learn the best way to put this important discipline to use for maximum spiritual benefit.
This book explains how to read the Bible the Orthodox way using a method he calls AAA. This is explained in an easy to understand way that is simple to apply. I had thought maybe it would be more in depth than it was. It was a helpful book and I’d recommend it to anyone wondering how to study the Bible.
This is a great article! It's only eleven pages long, so I don't feel comfortable calling it a "book".
There is one thing that Father Peck brings up in this article that I never considered before and found it invaluable. It's the first thing he brings up. I'd tell you what it is, but I really think you should buy the article and find out for yourself.
Getting past the general reluctance or negligence of reading God’s Word is the big obstacle facing multitudes. This pithy practicum serves as penetrating oil to a seized rusty bolt. The once seized but is freed by the oil. We all need oil to help us get unstuck, at times. This work not only helps us get loosed, but gives us leverage to learn God’s lessons and apply them to our lives.
This is an excellent book to read along in catechumen class. It isn't truly suitable for for reading without some assistance from the priest. Read the Bible every day? Yes. Take your questions and observations to the priest. When I was becoming Orthodox this is what we did in class. Reading the Bible this way is one of my fondest recollections.
Short, concise, easy to understand book on reading the Bible - a pleasure to read that all makes good sense. Everyone could use more of this in these often overwhelming, information overload times! Many people are often anxious thinking learning certain things are supposed to be more difficult. Not so! What a gift!
Fr. John Peck does a good job being concise in his teaching. While this is more of a short essay, it is full of quality advice on reading the Bible as the Orthodox do. It provides practical wisdom that is often missing in the contemporary era. This is a blessing to many!
I think this would be helpful to ANY one wanting to read the bible more and get more out of it! I am Orthodox but it works for all Christians. Or people wanting to begin reading the bible. The Orthodox faith was the original church -begun by the Apostles of Christ.
I liked that this book took less than 5 minutes to read, yet spoke volumes. There was no long, drawn out treatise on the how & why. Anyone looking to deepen their Biblical study can easily implement this method.
"This is what God wants. This is the Orthodox way."
Clear and concise process for reading and living scripture. It isn't meant to be revolutionary. It is revelatory and simple. Some we need at this time.
The essay is good, but it is very brief. I had anticipated something a bit more substantive that works take mugged than five minutes to read. It is literally about reading the Bible, not understanding the Bible, interpreting the Bible, or anything else. I could reproduce the entire essay here, but that would give the whole thing away.
I enjoyed reading this book with my nine- year grandbaby. The application was simple , but yet powerful. I would recommend that it to all who have a serious thirst for learning to apply the Word of GOD in their lives. Really enjoyable!
Very easy read & adept explanation as to how & why we should read the Holy Scriptures. Will be recommending this to all fellow Orthodox youth &/or beginners.
No bad for a sermoned, great for group discussion or home talk about, of course the discussion and talk about won't make any sense if the content of the book is not follow with practice.
