Larisa Villar Hauser writes books for children. Her first published work, Uma & Imp, was released in 2014.

Larisa lives in London and has spent stretches of time in New York, Austria and Brazil, where she expanded her horizons and her overdraft.

Although Larisa always wanted to write, she was in her thirties before she started work on her first book - an unpublished crime fiction novel that now acts as a draught excluder.

It took Larisa over seven years to complete Uma & Imp - she is confident that her next book will be completed in at least double that time.

I was lucky enough to win this book in the Goodreads giveaways.

My eight year old daughter read this by herself, so this feedback is entirely from what she has said. It will be brief, and that may not relay just how much she talked about the book while reading it, how much she wanted to explain the story to us, and how much she was thinking about what would happen next.

She absolutely loved this book. She searched for Uma and Imp on the internet, found the web page and has rated it and left feedback there. That's how much she wanted to share her love of the book! She has even read the blogs.

If you have a child of a similar age who is an avid reader, then I would recommend this book. She finished it days ago and is half way through her next book, but still talks about this one.

Thank you for this book; the fact that it is signed by both Uma and Imp makes it extra special!

Marketed at those aged nine years of age upwards. With the gift of certain magical abilities I suppose that Uma and Imp has something in common with the Harry Potter series and others of this ilk and yet I was concerned with the mention (no matter how fleeting it might have been) of a Ouija board.

Its always difficult reviewing children's book in as much as as well as having your own personal enjoyment to consider you are also having to take into account that here is a story for individuals many years your junior.

An adventure story suitable for boys and girls alike. Whilst I did quite enjoy the novel I'm sure it is one that will be far better appreciated by young readers.

I received a free copy of this book as a Goodreads giveaway.

Although not in the target demographic for the book, I read the book and was able to appreciate both the storyline and the writing. I can see how the book and the characters would be plausible and engaging to a youngster.

My grandchidren are a little too young for this so it stays on the shelf for a couple of years.

I got this book from the giveaway program, it arrived yesterday and I read it last night... I thought it was great, well thought out, with enough going on yet not too much so you don't lose track of things.
My daughter (7 years old) started reading it this morning and can hardly wait to get back from school to carry on and finish it too!

A great read, I highly recommend it!

Written with a depth of feeling one expects to find in adult fiction. Acutely observed. Poignant. Beautifully-drawn characters. A magical adventure. A great read for any age.

Uma & Imp is a fantasy adventure for boys and girls. The story centres around Uma's quest to find out what happened to her parent's in Peru. The story is filled with excitement and fantasy and would certainly stretch the imagination of any young child. It is a fantastic read and I would definitely recommend it to all children!

Disclaimer: I won this book through a Goodreads giveaway.
Despite this book being for ages 9+, I loved it. It was a really easy read and there weren't too many characters in the story which made it easier to follow. Uma & Imp have a great friendship so I can see that this would definitely appeal to a younger audience.
