In Subway Adventure New York City , residents and tourists alike gain access to off-the-beaten-path adventures in a compact guidebook format and see the New York City that's not featured on postcards sold all over Manhattan. Far Rockaway. Bay Ridge. Flatbush Avenue. Subway Adventure New York City takes you away from the tourist traps and closer to a genuine New York City experience.
I met Amy Plitt at her book signing. Not only is she a very charming, kind woman, but she possesses the ability to draw you in. I was very interested in her Subway Adventure Guide and upon hearing more about it, I dived in. The book itself comes with a complimentary MTA Subway map which allows you to follow along on your journey to new foods, people, cultures, and events. I am thrilled to have been exposed to areas I otherwise never would have checked out. The photographs add style and professionalism to the book, without seeming overbearing. It is very simple to understand the book and its concept; I highly recommend it to tourists or native New Yorkers, like myself
Absolutely love the concept (and most of the execution) of this. There are so many guides about the main attractions in tourist hotspots, whereas this one led us out to the far reaches of the subway system. What prevents this from being five stars is that sadly just five years after being published there are a significant number of outdated parts, especially restaurants in the outer boroughs.
Also as a personal note, not my BEST idea to read an adventure guide while self-quarantined at home for months.
