Joe Logan #3

Absolution

Rate this book

Logan is off the grid; a modern-day drifter with a bad habit of inadvertently walking into situations that place him in mortal danger.

Discovering a mutilated body on a railroad track Near Madison Bend in southern Arizona, Logan calls in what is obviously a homicide, only to find that the local sheriff seems unconcerned, and is positive that no trace evidence will be found to identify the killer.

Too many bodies are found annually in the arid region near the Mexican border, and the authorities have become a little apathetic, to Logan’s way of thinking. He decides to stay in the area for awhile and conduct his own investigation, which subsequently attracts the attention of Zack Slater, a ruthless operator who makes millions through the importation of drugs and the transportation of illegal aliens.

Andrea Corby knows that Slater had her boyfriend, Sam, murdered, and follows the two men responsible to a motel room occupied by Logan, where they are physically restrained by him and one of them is persuaded under extreme duress to admit that Slater ordered the killings of more than one man.

The ensuing events lead to more violence and death, as Logan attempts to keep Andrea and her sister Fran safe from Slater, who is determined to kill anyone he thinks could be a threat to his organization and his continued freedom.

I write the type of original, action-packed, violent crime thrillers that I know I would enjoy reading if they were written by such authors as: Lee Child, David Baldacci, Harlan Coben, Michael Connelly and their ilk.
Over twenty years in the Prison Service proved great research into the minds of criminals, and especially into the dark world that serial killers - of who I have met quite a few - frequent.

I live in a cottage a mile from the nearest main road in the Yorkshire Wolds, enjoy photography, the wildlife, and of course creating new characters to place in dilemmas that my mind dreams up.

What makes a good read? Believable protagonists that you care about, set in a story that stirs all of your emotions.

If you like crime fiction, then I believe that 'Deadly Reprisal' and 'A Reacher Kind of Guy - Aftermath' will push all the right buttons for you.

This was a fast paced story with lots of action, a real page turner that I didn't want to put down! Joe Logan is my kind of guy. A former cop turned drifter, he moves from place to place, content to go where the wind blows him. His one weakness is that he can't pass up an opportunity to right a wrong. That's why when he finds a man's body tied to the railroad tracks, his hands and feet severed, his face mutilated, he does the proper thing and calls the sheriff. Pretty soon he's neck deep in trouble, doing his best to protect a couple of women while attempting to bring down Zack Slater. The man is bad news. Not only was he responsible for the man's brutal murder, but he's also involved in slipping drugs and illegals across the border while making a profit. He's got border patrol and local law enforcement in his hip pocket and several thugs on his payroll to do his dirty work. The man's only mistake thus far was in attempting to kill Logan, who doesn't care for that kind of thing at all. Now Logan's out to get him in spite of the fact he's outgunned and outmanned.

Really enjoyed this one. Logan's character is so appealing. Not only is the guy likeable but who can fault what he does in order to see justice served. Can't wait to see what he gets involved in next.
