This is an introduction to, a summary of, all three books of Enoch and is NOT a translation of the books of Enoch. Nyland's translation is called, "Complete Books of Enoch: All Three: New Translation with Extensive Commentary." The mysterious figure of Enoch was the great grandfather of Noah, and an extract from the First Book of Enoch appears in the book of Jude in the New Testament. The First Book of Enoch has been a most controversial book for centuries. The Book of Enoch is of importance to those interested in theology, and controversial knowledge as well as angelology and demonology. Book of Enoch: All About the Three Books of Enoch is by #1 bestselling author and translator Dr. A. Nyland, translator of the Complete Books of Enoch: All Three: New Translation with Extensive Commentary.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR. Best selling author and translator Dr. A. Nyland is an ancient language scholar who served as Faculty at the University of New England, Australia. Dr. Nyland is also the translator of "The Book of Jubilees," and "The Gospel of Thomas," and the author of "Angels, Archangels and Angel Categories: What the Ancients said," "Satan: Fiction not Fact. Evidence from the Bible," and "Fallen Angels, Watchers, Giants, Nephilim and Evil," among others.
This was just awful. The author spends the vast majority of this short text complaining about translation misconceptions, the fact that he(or she) is superior to anyone working in the public domain, and paraphrasing Wikipedia. There is very little actual information of worth found here. The worst part is that, despite the author's obsession with literal translation, they can't even string together any cohesion in English. The author repeats the same information several times, without even bothering to rephrase. The amount of grammatical errors is just sad.
I had very high hopes for this piece and the translations, but there is nothing here that isn't more easily conveyed by wiki editors, and, well, at the very least, wiki editors use proper footnotes and source documentation.
This book is written as an explanation of the Book(s) of Enoch by a scholar who who published the most up to date and current translation of Enoch. It provided good information as to why one should not read one of the many public domain translations available as the current version contains the more comprehensive translation using the best available scholarship.
Using a scholarly approach to these three books, you get a description of each, along with some explanations of the various aspects of the symbology and theology/mythology of each. A good introduction.
I suppose this short little book was ok. But you could save yourself some time and effort by downloading the author's translation of the books of Enoch. As far as I can tell, that translation contains all the notes that this book has and more besides.
Sounds like hogwash! Wow weird stuff. I'll stick with the KJV BibLE...................................................you have lost it sir. I pray your eyes
