Jay And Char Save The Galaxy

Rate this book
Delivery jobs don’t usually come with a side of heroism.

Husband and wife duo Jay and Char run a transport starship-for-hire. They haul cargo and passengers across the galaxy—for the right price. Is it the prestigious job Jay’s mother wished he had? No, but disappointing her was nothing new.

When a pair of nonhuman travelers booked passage on Jay and Char’s ship, they failed to mention the whole host of trouble they’d be bringing with them. Now, the fate of the galaxy is in jeopardy, and it’s somehow up to a pair of middle-aged interplanetary freight haulers to fix it.

And the bigger question Will saving the galaxy finally be enough to make it onto Jay's mom's holiday brag letter?

MJ Blehart has been writing stories in the genres of high fantasy and sci-fi/space opera throughout his life, the first when he was nine years old. Over the years the scope of his writing has expanded, adding a variety of genres and styles.

MJ has been a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism (the SCA, a medieval re-enactment society) for over thirty years. In the SCA he is known as Malcolm Bowman, and practices 16th-century rapier combat (he is also an instructor in this), court heraldry, archery, and more.

MJ likes to think he is funny and has been known to pun and make snarky comments. Once, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, a random stranger came up to him, offered to shake his hand, and then told him, "I just had to say...you're an odd-looking fellow."

MJ blogs regularly about mindfulness and conscious reality creation. He lives with his wife and three cats in south New Jersey.

MJ Blehart is a fellow author in an anthology I’m in, and when I saw the cover of his new book, I had to get it. Jay and Char Save the Galaxy is a more light-hearted take on sci-fi than I usually read, but it had enough political intrigue and interesting characters to pull me in. The MCs are middle-aged cargo haulers, the mother is laughably overbearing, and the author breaks the fourth wall on multiple occasions. Recommended if you’re looking for a fun vacation read or something a little out of the ordinary.

Who knew that a couple of sarcastic, cargo-hauling space spouses could steal my heart and save the galaxy? Jay and Char are delightfully relatable, think Han and Leia if they quit the rebellion and bought a freighter. The banter is sharp, the action surprisingly intense, and the emotional core sneaks up on you. Highly recommend if you like your sci-fi with laughs, heart, and a side of midlife crisis.
