A terrific story from the clever pen of Roland Harvey as a group of dysfunctional children visit the zoo with their teacher. Harvey combines zoological fact with whacky fiction as the students visit their favourite animals and collect data about them. Hand written, quite lengthy text for a picture book targets independent readers. The detailed line drawings, with miniscule details, include the usual irreverent, cheeky and absurd additions beyond the story that one expects from this author/illustrator. I did find that the children's appearance and clothing, clearly illustrated and described on the endpages were not always portrayed consistently through the text - a slight irritation for me.
