Absolutely worth the read. I take it everywhere with me (not exaggerating) and every day I read a new poem. Every line is thoughtfully written and brings forward different emotions. It’s inclusive and culturally respective and you can tell the author put their heart into the entire thing.
If you love fantasy and self care that goes beyond the traditional, if you’re down for looking inside yourself and the world, I think you’ll love Of Wolf and Shadow. Every piece I’ve read so far has had an impact. I’d say it’s a reflection into what it’s like to exist as a femme in a world that treats women and wolves the same. But really that’s just the top, it goes even deeper than that.
I love the writing style and all of the photos inside. I can’t wait to see what comes next for this author!
As an avid reader, one that read well over 100 books last year alone. There’s something to be said about the experience in reading Of Wolf and Shadow by Saaya.
These poems were born in the quiet between growls…between the sharpness of fang and the softness of fur, between what is seen and what is buried beneath the dark. Of Wolf and Shadow is not just a collection of words, but a mapping of instinct, healing, wild grief, and reclaimed power that can be applied to any person and in life.
Each piece is a howl, a whisper, a memory clawing its way to the surface.
If you find yourself somewhere in these pages, know that you’re not alone. The wilderness within you is sacred. Let it rise. Because it can see you even from the shadows.
I pick this book up almost daily and flip through a few pages and then put it down. It’s not only a beautiful edition that I own but the content within will make you feel and think and cry. It’s not meant to be consumed in a bulk format, and you don’t need to start at page 1 and go to the second, you can go straight to page 20 and when 50 if you’d like. The way it made it made me feel more connected to nature and my own self was beautiful. I can’t say I have a favorite part because it was all so lovely but the way the words haunt me always has be coming back.
This is the kind of poetry, the kind of writing, that dismantles the fallacy of the patriarchy, the wild nature of the human experience, and the fabricated mundanity we've been taught to accept as reality. It’s not rooted in human thought or mental health narratives, though it encompasses them from a unique perspective. It's animist. It's feral. It forces your soul to remember a reality beyond the lens of human-centered suffering, outside of religion or even logic.
Art at its rawest and most vulnerable. Of wolf and shadow is a collection of poems with various themes ranging from nature to grief. The art and photography blended into the writing makes it an incredibly unique piece. These words are full of heart and empathy and I find myself revisiting them for warmth and comfort.
