My days running a publishing empire are dull. That is, until she stumbles into my life. With her quick wit and smart mouth, she challenges me without even trying. Sparking something back to life that I thought was long dead and buried.
Now, I can’t bear the thought of letting her go.
Unfortunately for me, she likes living life on her own terms and has made it abundantly clear she doesn’t want me in it. So to force her hand, I’m about to make her biggest dream come true. Working with me will just be a small price she’ll have to pay for it.
Kendall Adams
I don’t do people. At least, not if I can help it. I work hard, keep my head down as I chase my dreams, and protect my peace.
However, the Bossman has other plans. Pushing me into the spotlight in ways I never wanted. But hey, what’s a few extra tasks on my already overflowing plate? Nothing I haven’t handled before.
If only he stopped bringing up our unforgettable night together…
Billionaire Workplace romance Multiple povs Characters in 30s/40s Slow burn He falls first HEA
Confessions of a CEO features a MMC tempted to cross professional lines with an employee he is majorly attracted to FMC. He falls first and hard as he pursues her.
This book was well written! It started off as a slow burn that eventually picked up. The spice is definitely there and doesn’t take away from the plot which I appreciated. I would definitely read this again.
I received a free copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review! Thank you CM Degen for the opportunity!
This book is a fantastic debut, I’m looking forward to seeing this author develop. The chemistry between the main couple was on fire - he falls hard and fast and they have zero issues when it comes to the spice. However both are dealing with past experiences and pressures of life, let alone the fact he’s the CEO of the company she works for!! The plot is well paced and I loved the edge we walked between simply possessive and red-flag morally grey. Luke really does fall hard and engineers many situations to see Kendall. I read this as an arc and there were several errors which I believe have now been corrected and a couple of continuity issues that didn’t overly bother me, as they weren’t huge plot holes but did detract from reading slightly. This is a great summer fun read with travel, a literary company and two characters with super magnetism.
I’m so grateful I got to be apart of this ARC read. This is the first book in a while that I kept telling myself “one more chapter.” Kendall is a strong willed, independent woman and I absolutely loved that about her. And Luke… a gentleman not afraid to show his feelings. I can’t wait to read more from this author!
I loved this book - and no this is not an overstatement!
This story felt so real, so grown, so honest—it didn’t try to be flashy, it just hit. Straight in the heart. Over and over again.
Luke Davis is… yeah. Yeah. The kind of man who falls first, falls hard, and then just stays there. He’s intense without being toxic, charming without being fake, and somehow made me scream and swoon at the same time. Honestly, he ruined me a little.
And Kendall? She’s smart, guarded, constantly doing too much…trying to find her place in the publishing world, fighting her way up to make a change. I felt every single second of it. She’s relatable in that “I’ll just carry the world on my own thanks” kinda way.
This isn’t just a billionaire boss romance. This is two people with real shit going on, trying to figure it out together. It’s funny, emotional, spicy when it needs to be, and full of characters that feel like your actual friends.
Tropes? ✨ Later in life ✨ Workplace romance ✨ Billionaire with actual depth (shocking, I know) ✨ One night stand that haunts them ✨ He. Falls. First. ✨ Chaotic, ride-or-die friend group that I now want to be part of
C.M. Degen just gets it. She writes love the way it really looks when you’re tired, a little jaded, but still secretly hoping for more. This book felt like a warm hug and a soft scream. Highly, highly recommend.
Confessions more like obsessions This man falls first, hard and fast AND I am here for it
I enjoyed Luke and Kendalls story. We are given a glimpse into the world of book publishing and events but we are also given a story of love later in life, Luke is 44 and Kendall is 38. It is refreshing to have a couple not in their early 20s, don't get me wrong I do believe in age is just a number but when in your 30s and still single you start loosing hope so this was a great reminder that it is never too late for love, you will find your person at the time whem you least expect it but when you need them most
The insecurities and growth these characters face is so relatable. On the one hand it is frustrating and sad that people are stuck in certain situations but their journey of finding themselves and moving forward is beautiful to read
Thank you for allowing me to be part of your ARC team and I look forward to the the next book in this series knowing its a a continuation of this group's story plus has the best friends brother trope, you can sign me up
They’re everything. The chemistry, the tension, the way they both carry a bit of damage but still choose each other? Ugh, yes please!
And the spice? Chef’s kiss. Just the right amount and written so well, the perfect balance of heat and heart.
Also, Kendall’s girl gang?? Iconic. Absolute ride-or-dies…..I need them in my life. Loyal, hilarious and absolutely ready to commit a petty crime in your honour.
This book gave me everything I wanted: heart, heat, banter, and vibes. 10/10 would recommend to anyone who likes their romance grown, messy, and hot.
But seriously the author absolutely smashed it. The writing is sharp, funny, emotional and full of detail that makes everything feel real.
Can’t wait to see what she writes next, I’m fully invested.
Have you ever stumbled upon a book that just completely captivates you? Well, let me tell you about this amazing book by C.M. Degen that I recently had the pleasure of reading.
Now, I'll be honest, it's not a super-fast-paced, action-packed thriller. It's more of a slow burn, but trust me, that's part of its charm!
From the very first page, I was hooked.
What really drew me in were the characters. Kendall is just the sweetest thing, and you instantly want to be her friend.
And Luke? Oh, Luke! The author describes him in a way that makes you swoon. More than just looks, though, he has this HUGE heart, and it's impossible not to fall for him.
The story follows Kendall and Luke on this incredible journey, and it's a real rollercoaster of emotions. There's definitely love, and some moments that are a little sad, but ultimately, it's filled with happiness.
I seriously couldn't put it down! It's been ages since a book has held my attention like this one.
Seriously, if you're looking for a book that will give you all the feels, look no further.
And C.M. Degen? Consider me a devoted fan!
I'm already eagerly waiting to see what she writes next, and you can bet I'll be first in line to read it. This book is definitely worth checking out!
I received this as a ARC copy - thank you to Claudia.
It was by pure chance that I can across this author and after reading this book and the relationship between Luke and Kendall, she has me hooked. I cant wait to read her next book.
The way it started and the meeting and the saying on her bottle....lets just say I will be very conscious of what I have around me, if my video is on in a meeting.
I loved the way this romance progressed from their first date and the way Luke and Kendall were open with their feelings. I love Kendall for been the modern business woman who works diligently and wants to be recognised and to get a promotion .
Luke, I would say is the perfect gentleman, who goes all out to capture her heart, and wow the way he does it.
And lastly not forgetting Kendall's girlfriends - Ladies, we all want friends like them.
I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to read a perfect romance with spice and humour.....this is it

I really enjoyed reading this book, however it was a bit of a slow start for me. It took me like a quarter of the book to really get into it which is why this is only a 4 star for me. Other than that - this book was awesome and the love story is perfection.
And the whole bookish set up is fabulous and I LOVED it!😍
Luke and Kendall is like the perfect couple but they both have struggles and I like that they have flaws, because that is what makes them so real and so easy to connect with.
This book made me laugh, cry, blush and then cry some more, but it was worth every tear! And honestly, the spice was REAL spicy🥵🌶️
I want to thank C.M. Degen for giving me the opportunity to read this as an ARC!
✔️Billionaire ✔️Work place Romance ✔️Multiple pov ✔️Slow burn ✔️He falls first (and hard)
I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.
Kendall is completely relatable with her insecurities, and I just want to be her friend.
Luke has his own troubles but is described in a way that just makes you weak in the knees and not just in the looks department but just as a person.
The story is not super fast-paced, but so well written that it does not feel slow. The spice is good. It adds to the story and is not just there to have spice.
There were plenty of side characters that led me to believe that the author has more planned, and I, for one, will be looking out for what comes next.
This has been a great book to read while the sun has been shining!
If you haven’t guessed it from the title this book is a ooops I slept with my boss trope. I’m not going to lie I do love this trope especially when the boss isn’t just your line manger, he owns the company, has lots of money and he is good looking… a girl can only dream! Back to the book… in this book we meet Kendall who knows her own mind and goes after what she wants especially after a glass of wine IYKYK. Kendall’s past relationships both with family and her exs have left her still healing and made her a bit of a people pleaser. Then we have Luke, the 44 year old CEO who had me screaming at the book to get a pair of scissors and cut those apron strings. The two work wonderfully together and watching them both develop personally alongside their relationship blooming had me swooning.
You’ll find some great tropes in this book such as: ❤️Later in Life ❤️Workplace romance ❤️Billionaire Boss ❤️One Night Stand ❤️He Falls First
What a book! I have to admit, the writing style pulled me in immediately - the main heroine is mature, self-aware and very honest in her thoughts - this is something I highly enjoy in romance books. The writing style also adjusts based on POV - between Luke's and Kendall's - you can really tell who is speaking by the way they phrase their thoughts. It is a really strong quality of this book.
The chemistry though! Chef's kiss. Loved the banter, the relationship development! I will be looking forward to more books of this author!
I was glad to have the opportunity to read this book as an ARC. The story was so engaging that I found myself wanting to keep reading. The main character, Kendall, is portrayed as a strong and independent woman, which I really appreciated. Luke also stood out as a sincere and emotionally open character. I’m looking forward to reading more from this author.
Arc review-Not your typical ceo romance, older mfc with drive and passion not just clueless and smitten with the mmc. Brought a fun believability to the story. I loved the passion for dark romance and the growth of the mmc.
Luke Davis. That’s all you need to know . Luke MFing Davis . The FMC is funny witty relatable and her friend group are 100% ride or die’s. But honey Luke Davis is a billionaire who doesn’t use his money noooo our man does the work and it freaking hits . Banger absolute freaking banger .
This is the debut novel of Claudia, and if I hadn't read that I wouldn't have known. How wonderful that this fantastic book is her first, what a talented author!
I loved that it was about the book community, Kendall is the planner of book events. Luke is the CEO of the publishing company she works for. Luke falls first and is the perfect book boyfriend. Kendall’s friends and brother are the best to have by your side. The chemistry between Kendall and Luke was so good and I felt all the emotions!
It’s not a slow burn and I LOVED it! The spice was so good! I couldn’t out this book down! Can’t wait for the next book; confessions of a best friend’s brother!
From laugh out loud in the middle of the night reading moments to sweet heartfelt butterfly moments this book was amazing! I can't wait to read more! So thankful for this ARC.
I enjoyed this story. It was nice to see a FMC with a stronger personality and see the MMC grovel and do whatever it takes to have her. I love how much he adored her and the effort he went to for her. I recommend this book, it was a good read ❤️
CM Degen knocked it out of the park with this DEBUT book! I could not put this down, rooting for Luke and Kendell from the very start. There's spice, heartbreak, pining, setbacks, hope, you name it! So many great side characters, this book set the stage for what I hope will be a wonderful series for all! Cannot wait for more from this author!
What a debut novel! I loved the story of Luke & Kendall. Luke is a billionaire CEO who’s found himself in a role he never expected. Kendall is a junior editor in his company who gets overlooked for every promotion. But one video call with her colleagues, in which Luke joins, changes everything for them. This is a slow burn, he falls first story with a jealous MMC & a bratty FMC & it’s just delicious!
4/5 Overall a great debut novel. Definitely a slow burner carrying the lower end of spice. If you're looking for a man who grows to be a better partner and a female who values working in life, this is the book for you! I love that the female never gives up her identity for love, which happens often in books of this trope. I think it would be a great intro book into smut. Im looking forward to watching this author grow and explore more with her follow up books.
Confessions of a CEO offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the high-stakes, and often corrupt world of generational corporate leadership. Told with a sharp voice and set against the fast-paced backdrop of business events and personal reckonings and development it explores what happens when control meets vulnerability, and power collides with intimacy.
One of the most enjoyable aspects of reading this novel was seeing the publishing world from the other side of a book event. It’s not a perspective we get often in fiction, and it added a fun layer to the story. As someone who appreciates and participates in the literary community, it’s clear to me that the author is a true advocate for writers and readers alike, something that came through in both the setting and tone of the story.
At the heart of this story is Kendall; a sharp, emotionally guarded FMC with a sarcastic edge and her complicated relationship with the CEO of the publishing company she works for. The banter between them is rapid-fire, and while some moments land, a few felt a bit young for the ages and roles of the characters. The early dinner scene in particular stood out as an odd interaction for two people in a boss/employee first time meeting in person dynamic; it felt more like the behavior of bold strangers than cautious colleagues.
While Kendall’s character is clearly shaped by deep emotional wounds, I found myself wishing for more insight into her backstory earlier in the book. At nearly half way through, we still don’t fully understand the reasons behind her defensive behavior, which made it harder to empathize with her choices. A bit more context would have gone a long way in connecting me to her journey. Some of the plot points, especially involving misunderstandings and media rumors, felt a little shaky in logic. It was also hard to connect with the lifestyle Kendall leads— Her unlimited PTO, her availability to travel, work remote and have friends drop everything for her and be grieving internationally just didn’t track for me. It’s likely jealousy speaking here as that is SO far removed from my life. But honestly, I just am not sure I’d be that upset over a very short lived romance when I had that type of disposable income and time…. I understand the promotion aspect was part of it but also, is that a professional way to deal with it?
Despite these critiques, the writing style was strong and very readable. The author clearly has talent and voice, and while I didn’t always connect with the characters, I can absolutely appreciate the intention behind the story and the themes it explored. The book flirts with deeper questions and emotional stakes—grief, power, intimacy—but sometimes plays it safe instead of really digging in.
I felt like it was a true gift to be an ARC reader for a debut author and Confessions of a CEO shows a lot of promise. The author's love for these characters is really strong and I have nothing but admiration for the work put into creating this book!! I’m excited to read more from C.M Degen!
what a surprise! What a delicious and beautiful and funny and emotional and🌶️and WOW surprise your book is.
Finished it minutes ago and am so invested in cheering for this one! I apologize for not being "here for you" sooner, as your book released last month, but life got in the way.🤗
I loved EVERYTHING: the seduction, the LOVE, the hot of you-know-what-scenes, the friendship, the book world. As a non fan of 3rd act breakups, I even loved that, really did. And your way of writing. So well done. Especially loved that filthy mouth Luke has; you did wrote it so well.
And holy hell, that elevator scene? Jesus... My voyeur soul was 🥵 and there all the way.
Luke & Kendall are a favorite couple of mine from now on. And a huge compliment for making them fort-ish. We too deserve to be represented ❤️
Thank you to the author for this unbelievable ARC.

some my favorite quotes:
"Oh, don't worry honey, the more the merrier on my bookshelf."
I'm curious. Kendall's got layers and I want to peel them back.
"There's so much beauty in darkness too."
Undeniable desire flashes in his eyes as his gaze rakes over me, unapologetically thorough.
"Now, walk to the bed and get undressed. I want to see what you've been hiding underneath all this." She chuckles, soft and teasing. "I can assure you, it's not books."
I don't think I've ever tasted anything this intoxicating.
Those stupid, dangerous blue eyes that look at me like I'm something worth devouring all over again.
I feel so cherished with his hand in mine, holding me close as if he never wants to let go.
It's been a while since I've felt this content. I think I might actually feel happy.
My stomach flips. Butterflies explode in my chest, desperate to be set free.
"You're crazy, you know that?" "About you? Absolutely."
A feral sound escapes him
recognizing her touch for what it is - a safe haven. My safe space to come home to.
She tastes like mine.
"You're still leaking out of me." "The words that leave your mouth at times..." I smirk.
This woman holds every piece of my heart.
"She's everything."
I'm in such a deficit when it comes to this woman.
It wasn't even a full touch, but I'm so deprived of him that it might as well have been an embrace.
"You taste like bad decisions, you eager little thing."
Loved the writing in this book! It’s an easy, enjoyable read with a good flow.
The FMC is described as a sassy pushover, which seemed a bit at odds. The MMC is a CEO who still hasn’t emancipated himself from his parents at age 44. He has a penthouse and a jet, and I wonder if there is this much money in publishing.
I thought this was a workplace romance, but with the FMC working from Mexico most of the time, they’re never in the office together. Somehow, the FMC expected to receive a promotion, even though she’s never physically present, and allows her colleague to take credit for her work?
And call me old-fashioned, but I can’t consider a book that has this much spice in the first thirty percent a slow-burn (even if it takes one of the characters longer to be fully invested). The thing is, if you go full volume so early in the book, there is nowhere left to go… So naturally, it’s a bit slow afterwards. The blurb had me thinking their night together had happened before the events in this book, but that’s not the case. Personally, I like to see a connection between the characters before they get it on.
The book event at the beginning was nice, but I would’ve liked a bit more detail about the dark romance project. Many things were extremely vague.
I would definitely read more from this author, but would prefer a different story structure and a balanced amount of POV chapters (this one had more FMC chapters, so the MMC chapters felt squeezed in). The writing is excellent, though (can’t stress this enough).
Confessions of a CEO by C.M. Degen absolutely hooked me from page one.
It’s sweet, it’s spicy, it’s hilarious and Kendall has officially become my spirit animal. I adore her confidence, wit, and the way her friendships feel so real and ride-or-die. The representation of the dark romance community was such a thoughtful touch and made me feel truly seen.
And then there’s Luke. He is swoonworthy, determined, and the perfect balance of protective and respectful. The chemistry between him and Kendall jumps off the page in the best way. Their dynamic is a mix of banter, tension, and genuine emotional connection that makes every moment feel earned rather than just tossed in for drama.
This isn’t your typical CEO romance. Kendall is in her 30s, passionate, driven and relatable, and Luke falls first and hard. The office drama, the found-family friend group, and the slow burn that bursts into fire kept me turning the pages way past bedtime.
It’s the kind of romance that gives you butterflies, laugh-out-loud moments, and some seriously hot scenes without ever losing its heart. And knowing it’s the start of a series? I'm so excited!
If you love workplace romances with spice, humor, and characters you want to be friends with, add this to your TBR right now. Highly recommend!
I have so much fun reading this book! From page one, I’m already hooked on Kendall, and I love getting a little peek inside the publishing world. The story keeps me giggling from start to finish, right up to the climax. Honestly, the tone fits more with a bright, illustrated romcom cover. I never expected such a fun, lighthearted story under such a dark one. But if it had that romcom look, I probably wouldn’t have signed up for the ARC, so no complaints there.
Kendall is sassy, snarky, and impossible not to love. Even the spicy scenes have me laughing thanks to her ridiculous commentary and antics. And the way she stress-eats brownies? Relatable. Luke feels so real too, the kind of guy you actually meet in real life. Soft, sweet, with just enough temper to make him interesting, and way more mature than most “daddy” characters I’ve read lately. Together, they feel genuine and refreshing.
If anything, the climax feels a bit sudden. I wish there had been more buildup to Kendall’s emotions during the anniversary project instead of shifting focus to another one. Still, it’s a small thing in an otherwise delightful, entertaining read.
I received this as an ARC read. Overall, I did enjoy the book and the spicy scenes were good! By the end I felt that i had been gaslit into being emotional about Luke and Kendall’s relationship. They started out pretty quickly feeling these big strong feelings, especially on his side, that I didn’t quite feel come across on the page as justified. I did enjoy Luke as an MMC, and I enjoyed Kendall as well but they kept describing her as sassy and fiery and that wasn’t really the impression that I got, although she did have a bit of sass, the things that they would comment on her being sassy about seemed like pretty standard behaviours. But in the end I still was rooting for them, and maybe a couple of side characters that might have been foreshadowed for the next book in the series as well. Overall I enjoyed the plot and will continue reading when the next book comes out!
Another ARC i forgot to write my review for. But Jesus christ, this was good.
It was a bit slow in the start, but the rest of the book more than made up for it.
It's a great debut novel. It’s an easy, enjoyable read and has a good flow. Definitely a slow burner carrying the lower end of spice. If you're looking for a man who grows to be a better partner and a female who values working in life, this is the book for you!
I really admire how Kendall never gives up her identity for love, unlike many characters in this kind of story. And she's completely relatable with her insecurities. Luke has his own issues, but he's portrayed in a way that really makes you weak in the knees—not just because of his looks, but also because of who he is as a person.
I really enjoyed Confessions of a CEO and absolutely loved these characters. One of my favorite things is that they’re in a more realistic age range—late thirties to early forties—which instantly made them more relatable. The story blends workplace drama (an inevitable part of adult life, even for a CEO) with a compelling romance, and it does so seamlessly.
The plot was well thought out and paced just right, with just enough spice to heat things up without ever overshadowing the actual story. Both Luke and Kendall felt like fully developed, multi-dimensional characters, and their interactions came across as authentic and believable. Overall, it’s a smart, engaging, and satisfying romance that I thoroughly enjoyed.
