*Me trying to decide what exactly to rate this*
Alright folks. This is another debut novel! One of my friends wrote it. And what I have noticed about friend... is my reviews tend to speak to how impressed I am with where they were when their book was published as far as writing journey.
This one was pretty good.
Clarity and the prose were very good. It was something of a breath of fresh air to read a book that contained both and it felt a little bit like reading dehumanize, except for the fact that Dehumanize was more specific with plot, characters and world.
I felt the main character of this book was... pretty well done? And the turnout for him was pretty neat, but it took a fair bit of telling and a few inconsistencies in the plot to make it happen.
Plot twists werent really foreshadowed much, not that I noticed.
And most of the side characters felt like they were missing from the page in a lot of places. They were plot driven side characters while the protag was somewhat self driven?
Anywho, the biggest thing to reccomend is to add MORE TO IT.
I felt like the author had everything that they were looking to say, in their mind, but didnt know how to say it. With added lore, development, character arc and world this would be a really epic story. Something between James Bourne and- well... If I can think of another comparable title Ill come tell folks here. Ill just say, its low fantasy Jason Bourne.
I feel like four is too much and three is cheating the story what it deserves for the authors talent when it was written..... Four it is.
