Rate this book
Lola: Diary of a Rescued Cat is the witty and sincere rags-to-riches story of a young cat abandoned in a garbage dumpster. It chronicles Lola's life beginning with her rescue from the dumpster and continues on to her stay in the shelter system (where she became very ill), her rescue from the shelter, adjustment to her forever family and new feline sibling after being adopted, and, ultimately, her recovery. It is written in the form of her diary, with each entry dated, and includes many beautiful photos. Included in the book are many heartfelt stories of other rescued pets. Lola: Diary of a Rescued Cat will make you laugh, cry, and laugh again.

Ten percent of the proceeds from sales of Lola: Diary of a Rescued cat will go to support rescue organizations and shelters.

I was a little apprehensive about reading this book because I myself talk to cats and dogs as an animal communicator. Most books I read about what people THINK the cats/dogs will be thinking either pander to the pets, or have them talking baby talk, not how the pet WOULD ACTUALLY TALK. Dean Koontz is the only writer who comes to mind that pulls a dog character speaking off effectively.

When I started reading Lola, i was impressed by the support system the author had created for rescued cats. That she not only took Lola in, but networked with other cat aficionado's to get medical care and help as many rescue cats as possible. This to me was the true inspiration in the book, to know that there are many others out there that care for cats. These women are willing to wear clothes that may be last season's (I had an epiphany watching Project Runway that ALL of that money could be used to save abandoned pets instead of a garment a woman will wear once) so that the kitten in the alley doesn't die but gets medical treatment. It is obvious from the book that we are stronger when we work together to rescue animals. The author has considerable talents telling the story of Lola in such a way that others feel a kinship with the cat.

There are plenty of pictures of Lola and her siblings, even a dog! In the back, the stories of many rescue kitties are shared. As a communicator, I hear cats refer to their humans as Mom, or Mommie if that is what the human uses, just like in this book! I am amazed at the number of words cats & dogs learn without ever going to school or learning to write and read. Many cats tell me of watching TV to learn words. Of course, they also send mental pictures with a feeling and then another mental picture with a feeling, comparing the two to communicate meaning. It would be nice to see Dawn incorporate some of that into the next book she writes for her cats.

I am grateful to Dawn for writing a book that focuses on the need we have to get abandoned cats taken care of. This story shows the love, caring and happiness that rescue cats have to give. Plus, the message I am getting from Lola right at this minute, is to say that she is GORGEOUS! and that sharing that is the BEST purpose of this book! Well, that and the power of cats to add love & joy to any human's life! Even if you think you don't need a cat in your life, you do. There are no coincidences. If you are reading this and know where an abandoned cat is, you are supposed to retrieve that cat and take it home with you. There. Lola has told you the true reason for this book!

fun to read. pawsome to give!

In Lola's own voice, "as told to, meowed to, and purred to" Lola's Mommy, Dawn. My Green Eyed Kittehs know Lola, her sister Lexy, and their Mom Dawn from Facebook, so all of us especially loved reading this diary. So fun that this is not a daily diary, but has entries for some days, none for others, since cats do what pleases them, when it pleases them. You need to notice Lola's own cats-eye logo! In fact, the book design features a B&W version of her logo and book title at the top of each left-hand page.

I love the easy to read typeface and layout, as well as the generous number of photographs. Including stories of some of Lola's own Facebook furrends at the end of the book strongly increases reader interest and fun. You know you need to consider Lola: Diary of a Rescued Cat as a December holiday, birthday, or any occasion gift for all the cat-lovers in your world!

I originally purchased this book for myself, but after reading it, I ended up buying several copies for my friends and family for Christmas. The book is told from the Cat's point of view, which is a refreshing change of pace from most books, and makes the story especially touching. I would recommended this book for any animal lover, or someone who wants to read a great book.

This is a great book. A story of a rescued cat from her perspective. The book is written in diary form, which is unique and chronicles Lola's rescue, time in the shelter, and her first full year in her new forever home.
