Before reading this book, you need to read the first book A Little Death by Chance to understand what is going in this one. In the second book in the series, Kaitlyn is recovering from major surgery after being beaten and also suffers from short term memory loss and doesn’t remember Tristen. With the encouragement of her family and friends she decides to trust Tristen and let him help her with her recovery. There is quite a bit going on in this installment of the series.
Kaitlyn has never had a healthy relationship with her parents due to their alcoholism. She is more the parent than the child and mother to her siblings. After her grandparents take her younger siblings, she finally has the opportunity to start living her life. It seems like every time something good happens to Kaitlyn fate intervenes and knocks her back down. And every time she gets back up stronger than before.
After waking up in the hospital, she is dealt with a blow about her mother. While recovering from her injuries, she gets to know Tristen again and starts falls for him all over. Out of necessity, she is told about the near rape that happened at a party Tristen gave due to the fact that Steve is still obsessed with her. I like how the author handles the stalker aspect of the book, especially where it doesn’t matter what Kaitlyn did or didn’t do, Steve twists things around in his mind. In the first book, the author left clues about Kaitlyn being stalked and I knew something was going to happen, however I didn’t expect the loss Kaitlyn received.
Tristen’s past keeps coming back. He wants to forget about things he has done and hopes Kaitlyn will never find out about some things. Those things are still unknown, however I do have my suspicions, and he now is paying for not being forthcoming in what actions molded into the man he has become. Even with all of his power and money, he has his insecurities about deserving Kaitlyn.
Toward the end of the book I knew something was going to happen to interfere with their HEA since things were going so well. Tristen’s past came back to bite him and when face with choosing Kaitlyn or his past, he chose wrong. All Kaitlyn knows is she is not going to be like her mother. Now with her heart shattered, she writes Tristen a letter to ask him not to look for her while she figures out what she is going to do. Tristen is devastated when he realizes Kaitlyn left and now has to deal with his past. It’s not clear what exactly happened in his past yet, only that the person involved has gone out of her way to destroy his life with Kaitlyn.
According to the author’s web page, the final installment Last Chance will be released the end of 2014. If you do not like cliff hangers, I would suggest waiting to read the series until Last Chance is released. I reread A Little Death by Chance prior to this book since it’s been awhile. I would recommend reading the books in close proximity so it’s fresh in your mind when continuing with Tristen and Kaitlyn’s story. I have really enjoyed the series so far and can’t wait to see how it ends.

Absolutely amazing. If you loved the first book the second book will continue to suck you in. With new twists and turns and surprises you will never want to put it down. The writing is amazing and makes you feel as though you are apart of the characters lives, I felt invested and when they cry I cried when they laughed I laughed. The ending will leave you with a desperation for the next book. I am so excited Tristan and Kaitlyns story isn't over and can't wait to see where the next book takes us!
