Objections You Might Have (and Why They’re Holding You Back):🚫 "I just need to work harder, this is what I signed up for."
👉 Hard work is good, but burnout isn’t. Ministry isn’t about running yourself into the ground. It’s about running the race with endurance.

🚫 "If I don’t do it, no one else will."
👉 That’s a dangerous mindset that leads to exhaustion. Healthy leadership means equipping others, not doing it all alone.

🚫 "Rest and priorities sound selfish."
👉 Even Jesus took time away to pray and recharge. You can’t pour into others when your cup is empty.

🚫 "Delegating means I’m not doing my job."
👉 No, it means you’re doing your job well. True leadership isn’t about doing everything—it’s about raising up others to lead.

I was pleasantly surprised how well I could apply the reflections to my secular job. I used to be a youth ministry coordinator a few decades ago, so many of the biblical and ministry concepts were familiar to me. Recently, I have been doing some soul searching in my job and I came to the mindset that my job (in a public school system) is a ministry and it would be helpful for me to remember that. From that perspective, the experience felt like a good summer retreat for me, remembering to pray more, to take time for reflection, and to seek God's will. This book is not for everyone, but it is definitely for more people than I think the author team intended.
A note and disclaimer: I agreed to read this book to help the authors with early reviews. A pdf copy was presented to me. I would have gotten more out of it if I had it on kindle or paper where I definitely would have taken more notes and written in the margins. There were some repeated formatting or proofreading errors, enough that were distracting to me, but I'm putting faith that the final printing would have fixed them.

Cedar Creek Ministries presents a comprehensive approach to building a personal ministry with staying power. In a culture that is opposed to Christianity it is difficult to find perseverance in ministry. This presents itself as the ultimate guide in avoiding and even navigating burnout in ministry. The information is both biblical and practical. Godly men like Moses, Joseph - son of Jacob, and Paul provide strong biblical examples and insight into leadership that is effective and lasting. And like any other resource, it only works as well as you work it. This is definitely worth the time investment for any church leader.
