What started off so promising—reminiscent of My Dinner with Andre, with a reporter visiting a wealthy recluse—felt like old friends reuniting to discuss fascinating, out-there ideas. It had me hooked from page one.

However, as the pages turned, the initial excitement slowly faded, like walking through a persistent drizzle that never quite lets up. By the time I reached the end, I felt a bit worn down.

The writing is undeniably intelligent and well-crafted, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that the author's vision may have felt grander in his mind than it translated onto the page. At one point, I even found myself double-checking the book jacket to make sure it was the correct jacket for the book I was reading.
