As a child, several times my father brought home Kjell Sandved books (I especially remember Leaves). Butterflies is a beautiful book, carefully researched and lovingly photographed. I loved it.
The title of the book I actually read is: 'Wings in the Meadow'. It apparently doesn't exist in Goodreads' catalog. Anyway, it was published in 1967, has lovely illustrations and is a science based imagining of the life of a butterfly. The descriptions of life in a meadow were lovely and the information about monarch butterflies' life cycles is truly interesting. Many of us who watch for monarchs noticed their absence this year and felt concern that global climate change is responsible. This book makes note of the fact that the population of monarchs is always variable and somewhat mysterious. There's an amazing description of an event at sea where a hurricane sent hundreds of migrating butterflies onto the deck of a ship. This book is a lovely interlude.
