Taiwanese Culture, Taiwanese Society: A Critical Review of Social Science Research Done on Taiwan

Rate this book
TCTS is a critique of social science research (mostly by American trained anthropologists and sociologists) done on Taiwan before recent democratization (and Taiwanization of the ruling party). At a time when China was closed to foreign scholars, many wrote about what existed on Taiwan as if it was an embalmed Ming-dynasty theme park for aliens. As elsewhere, anthropologists in particular were complicit with in this instance the domination of a Taiwanese majority by a Chinese minority. The book includes an annotated bibliography.
