The season of Lent is a sacred period of the Church calendar, spanning from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday. It is a time set aside for reflection and preparation as we anticipate the miracle of the cross and the resurrection. The Lenten season can sometimes engender a kind of inward focus. We become fixated on what we’re giving up, on our struggles. We wrestle with our shortcomings and reflect on our individual hopes for the future. Instead, this book seeks to place God at the center of our reflection this season. As we journey through each week of Lent, we’ll explore a different aspect of God’s nature with a reading from scripture. Following each passage, we offer a contemplative reflection intended to deepen our understanding of who God is and how God walks with us. You’ll also find a list of further biblical readings to help you dig deeper. Finally we’ll engage with the traditional core practices through thoughtful prompts centered on fasting and giving and a concluding prayer.
Let this time be an opportunity to encounter God afresh and to prepare our hearts for the joy of Easter.
