Sarah Pemberton's back, raising hell and wreaking havoc.
Despite desperately trying to be the demure lady of the manor, things don't quite go to plan. Armed with her ever faithful troop, they have to batten down the hatches and keep the intruders from the gate. What can you do when people try to break you? Don't take things lying down!
Restoring a rundown hotel is stressful enough, having your arch enemy move in next door is a recipe for disaster. Add to the mix the discovery of a secret locked door that holds its own puzzles and mysteries, and you get a whole shed load of fun!
If you have a wicked sense of humour, this is the book for you.
No "laugh out loud" moments in this second volume..
Volume One in the Cuckoo's Nest series was a riot. Hilariously funny throughout and, at times, had me crying with laughter. However, towards the end I was starting to tire of Sarah's self serving obsession with victimhood. True, she was married to a vile man and was stuck with the parents in law from hell but her acts of revenge went from justifiable to downright evil. In the end I started to feel sorry for her husband. In Book Two her adversary, Mary, also deserved the acts of revenge directed against her, at least initially, but Sarah took it way too far. In the end I found very little to choose between the two (psychotic) characters.
I did not enjoy this sequel quite as much as the first. The story continues or rather backtracks into a review of a year in the life of setting the reader up for several more diary like admissions of practical jokes and more serious revenge.
Still some nice comedy moments, but not sure I will continue the tales.
