This book was recommended by a friend who builds his own website a while ago. Most of the concepts are pure common sense but it’s interesting to learn a little about this niche corner of investing. Even if you are not into buying websites, it’s helpful to understand the perspective of a small business / website owner and the factors they consider when building the business ( i.e how much they fear google algo changes, how reliance they are on Adsense, etc ). It’s a quick manual, you can easily finish it in a day or two.
Jeff Hunt sent me a review copy of The Website Investor, and I just finished reading it. I enjoyed the book more than I expected.
To be clear, this isn't a book about "flipping" websites or getting rich quick. It's a book about how to invest in income-producing websites.
The Book's Strengths:
* The book is very thorough. It covers just about every aspect of buying and selling websites that you can think of.
* The case studies are great. They include both successes and failures.
* The book includes instructive charts, checklists, and images. All are relevant and helpful.
* The writing is clear and concise. The stories are interesting and entertaining.
The Book's Weakness:
* Some of the how-to sections are a little bit dry. (They are still very useful though.)
My favorite part of the book is the first half since it is focused on how find good value websites for sale, acquire them, and grow them. This is the most relevant information to me since I'm not actively looking to sell a site.
Overall, a great book for anybody who would like to build a portfolio of income-producing web properties. Highly recommended.
In his book Hunt provides a roadmap for finding highly profitable online businesses for sale and shows you how to get the most value out of them without having to start from scratch. The goal of the book is to help you estimate the value of a website, negotiate price with website sellers, differentiate between low and high effort web businesses, and hire the right virtual assistants to help grow your web business.
For your convenience, we had Jeff Hunt on our podcast, The Entrepreneurs Library, to give a deep dive on The Website Investor. With Jeff’s experience he gives amazing insight on how to master the art of buying highly profitable online businesses for a decent price. If you would like to get a more in-depth look from the author himself check out episode 206 on the EL website or you can find the show on iTunes.
I was looking at buying a clone website but didn't know anything about such things. This book was very clear about the buying and selling of web sites. Lots of great info here , especially if you are new to this arena.
