J.C. Fields is one of my favorite authors and I’ve been waiting a while for his latest novel, ‘A Cloak of Deceit’; I was not disappointed! It’s one of his best to date. Michael Wolfe, retired special operator for the US government and his wife Nadia are drawn into another case which brings deadly threats to his family on a personal level, and to the nation and its president. I found myself constantly doing mental doubletakes while reading this one as it sails very closely to the winds that blow in today’s politics and events in the States, in my opinion, and was even more enjoyable because of that.
Fields’ tight writing, believable characters, and the depth and complexity of the plot work seamlessly together to deliver a fast-paced thriller that will keep you awake into the early hours of the morning. He crafts a superb tale that places Wolfe, Nadia, their young son Ben, and last but not least, the latest addition to their family, Nova, in constant peril from sources at times too near to home. Now he’s got me hooked waiting on the next book in the series!!!
This one will delight fans of Mark Greaney and Robert Ludlum’s Jason Bourne novels, and is very highly recommended.
I’ve loved each of these! I was new to JC Fields but am now a fan and avid reader. I didn’t see a book 5 as the ending eluded to but I certainly hope there is more. It makes one think of what really goes on in the world and the silent heros going about their work as we sleep unaware of the dangers they face. I love the characters and the humanization of them with their progression towards a “normal” life that most likely will never come. Their training will always make them see dangers the rest of us would miss. Can’t wait to read more of the journey. Great writing!
Excellent, as always! I love Michael, Nadia (of course Ben and Nova) and Ian. Once I start reading a new episode, I can’t stop. So please write another book in the series, soon?
If you’re a fan of thrillers with lots of plot twists and likable characters, you’ll definitely enjoy this installment of the Michael Wolfe saga. Occasionally the plots seem a little far fetched, but maybe only a little.
His first three books are fantastic. They are very hard to put down because once you hook up, you just have to to know what happened and he does a very good job with his storyline looking for more of your work.
