Ursula St. Germain, Omega of the Farouche Werebear pack, agrees to manage the Christmas pantry cook-off benefiting the New Orleans food bank. Unaware the event’s secret ingredient will be drama.
Recluse Vampire Ric Falco is both her new landlord and the cook-off sponsor. When a tabloid reports he and Ursula are romantically involved, Ric confesses that, while unplanned, it'll be great to grow donations and event buzz.
Being thrust into celebrity status frustrates Ursula, and she agrees to host a non-corporeal entity housed within an enchanted tarot card deck. Temperance, gifts her the ability to find balance in life and love. It's time for this bear to stop hibernating and pursue all her dreams.
All this drama is an Unwanted gift she can’t return.
This is book nine in the G.R.I.T.S., Love & The Paranormal series — a clean romance that ticks every magical box.
In her mind, Jan is a modern-day Austen protagonist.
As a child, she created elaborate stories involving a pretend cattle ranch guarded by vegetarian dinosaurs and went on adventures with her stuffed teddy bear, creatively named Ted.
After getting out of college in four years (an astounding feat) she began a career in advertising and marketing. Extensive reading during work travel rekindled her imagination and her Rock, Paper, Scissors series was born. These YA Urban Fantasy books are full of action, snark and a hint of romance.
Now she writes full-time in her hometown of New Orleans. The city is its own character in her 22 book paranormal romance series. Those feature a variety of Supernatural Main Characters in search of love. An enchanted deck of tarot cards adds a unique twist to the interwoven storylines of her G.R.I.T.S. books.
Jan Mau Hill writes fast-paced books featuring clever and bold heroines. If that sounds interesting, she’s the author for you. Check out her website at: www.janmauhill.com
This is a Christmas story with a difference. Think Werebear, vampire, and an ancient entity named Temperance.
Ursula, the Werebear in question, has her hands full running the New Orleans Food Bank and hosting an unplanned celebrity chef cook-off just before Christmas. Single, she’s also on the lookout for a child to adopt. There was no room in her hectic schedule for romance. Or was there?
Enter Ric, a suave, reclusive, wealthy vampire. He’s got some major hang-ups from the past. Can he, Ursula, and her hoped-for adoptee form a happy, if irregular, family in time for the holidays?
You’ll have to read this eventful, heartwarming, and well-written book to find out. I enjoyed this latest entry in the series, which throws plenty of curveballs at the protagonist and her would-be romantic interest. An entertaining paranormal romance stocking stuffer!
"Unwanted" is the latest in the GRITS series and it is a blast. Even though this is something like Book 9 in the saga, it shows no signs of slowing down.
This time the heroine is Ursula, and naturally she is a werebear. Like all the characters so far, she draws a card from an enchanted Tarot deck to help her find love. This time it's Temperance, a non-corporeal entity who appears to her in the form of Mary Poppins.
Did I mention the fun and quirky sense of humor this author brings to the party? That and the sense of community are the reasons I keep coming back. The Haunted New Orleans that is the setting of these stories sees every character from previous installments coming back to populate the world, which makes it feel ever more lived-in and real with every new episode.
Put me down for the next one already. I absolutely inhaled this book!
Ursula is an omega werebear and runs a food bank for her community. Her new landlord, Ric, is a vampire billionaire. When Ric proposes a cooking show fundraiser for her business, Ursula reluctantly becomes the star of the show and with the help of her bear, Sabra, and an inner spirit guide, Temperance, realizes there may be more to her relationship with Ric than the show. With a council that works to prevent humans from discovering the paranormal beings, this story has shifters, fae, vampires, cute dogs, a reality show, an orphan, and two adults who have to work on themselves a bit. It reads quickly and kept me entertained, but there were a few extra commas in odd places that were a bit of a distraction from the plot.
Ursula is a friend I would love to have. She’s kind, funny, self-deprecating, and self aware. Jan Mau Hill has done it again - bringing the city and food of New Orleans alive. It’s extra special because it’s Christmas time. This book follows the format of the previous, as far as the Tarot deck is concerned, but there was an added extra twist that I really enjoyed. I love the idea of Supernatural beings living amongst the humans and hope that it’s true. Although you don’t need to start at the beginning of this series, you should. You will enjoy it that much more.
Ursula and Ric's story is a wonderful romance. I love that Ursula is so invested in helping others and doing it publicly while Ric is also invested in helping others but does so in the background. They compliment one another perfectly.
Their romance isn't without hiccups--both from family and from their own preferences. Those hiccups add conflict that moves the story along. I didn't want the story to end and sighed with disappointment when it did. lol I was just so invested in the characters.
I received an ARC from the author. All opinions are my own.
Sweet, fun and heartwarming. Ursula runs a food bank and cares for her community. She doesn’t have time for anything other than work and her adorable little dog Oreo. When Ric Falco, new landlord and benefactor for the food bank, enters her life everything gets a lot more exciting. I loved Ursula. She’s smart, caring and funny. A wonderful read for the holidays or anytime. Unwanted is part of a series but can be read standalone.
A beautiful Christmas in the paranormal New Orleans community. The author brings her knowledge of the wondrous food of the Crescent City to bear in this tale, with a cooking contest weaving through the tale. Can Ursala find lasting love with a hermit who has hidden himself from the paranormal community? Can Ric engage with life, even if he has to challenge everything he believes about himself? I loved the characters in this episode of the G.R.I.T.S. series from Jan Mau Hill.
I enjoyed Ursula’s story! What a strong, resilient and capable person! Loved Ric, Oreo and the new character introduced! What a page turner! I love that the same background characters are in each book of the series so that I feel like I know the whole community. Really makes me feel part of the story! These are my thoughts after enjoying an early copy of the book.
Love the old fashioned courtship between Ric and Ursula. The paranormal aspects were more of a side story to give background context into a forbidden romance rather than a main idea. This is a romantasy I couldn't and didn't want to put down. It had all the right elements of a page turner; however when I got to the end I was left a bit disappointed. Possible ending spoiler to some below.
*possible spoiler* In the beginning Ric and Ursula both want the romance, then Ursula takes a step back and later decides she wants the romance but now there's a barrier for Ric. Ursula tells Ric her peace and that she wants this but ultimately he has to decide for himself. In the end, he decides he wants Ursula and she ARGUES WITH HIM?!?!?! absolutely my least favorite ending. Ever.
