Guys I’ve just realised, if a man constantly tests you to make you prove your love, that shit is manipulative and controlling and lowkey on the way to DV. That’s literally what god is doing it every story, and we are supposed to praise this guy?? Hell nah

The paintings and morals found in this book make up for plain writing and over top the narratives.

This book was originally published in France where he lived much of his life. He began illustrating the bible in 1931. His paintings are beautiful but many are details of a larger work. I wished the book was larger with full illustrations (it is tiny.) The Jewish Canon is the Tanakh which is divided into 3 sections: the Torah (the Five Books of Moses), the Nevi'im (Prophets) and Ketuvim (Writings which has the Song of Solomon). I don't know the reason they chose to show these books or if he illustrated any others.

It felt like a miracle to come across a reproduction of a book I had seen in Paris in 1961 (but could not afford to buy then). The illustrations move me profoundly and give a whole new sense of these Biblical texts. The book is small and costs only $19.95. I can think of a dozen people I would like to give it to as a gift.

Beautifully done. The interpretations by Chagall really bring these old stories to life. I only gave it four stars because I wish it had more books. Skipping from Genesis and Exodus to the Song of Solomon was sort of random and it left me feeling like I wanted more. Other than that, fantastic!

Although this particular translation is easy reading, the pairing of Chagall's paintings is simply beautiful. Thank you Musee Marc Chagall, Nice, France.
