In the summer of 2011, London was burning. Alecky Blythe took her Dictaphone to the streets. From the helicopters circling overhead to the burnt-out buildings on the street, Little Revolution records the voices and stories of a community from when the riots happened up to their present-day aftermath.

Little Revolution premiered at the Almeida Theatre, London, in August 2014.

Alecky Blythe is a playwright and pioneer of verbatim theatre. Her plays have been staged at the National Theatre, Arcola and the Royal Court Theatre among others.

das thema und die konflikte sind an sich unglaublich interessant aber dadurch dass das verbatim ist weigere ich mich das dem "genius" von alecky blythe zuzuschreiben . tatsächlich frustriert sie mich eher mit ihrer schaulust, ihrem unangemessenen selbstmitleid und ihrer insensitivity wenn es darum geht die krisensituationen von anderen zu invaden um ihren super wichtigen middle class theater content reinzukriegen . blythe wirkt demnach durchgehend blind gegenüber genau dem problem, das sie vorgibt aufzudecken - bisschen disappointing

Leider Gottes musste ich dieses schreckliche Stück für die Uni lesen und es war unglaublich MÜHSELIG!!!

Es ist ein sogenanntes "verbatim theatre", das heißt, dass die Charaktere echte Personen sind und das, was sie gesagt haben, auch Wort für Wort übernommen wurde - mitsamt dem Stottern, den Wiederholungen, den abgebrochenen Sätzen und vor allem den sinnlosen Aussagen. Einfach nur schrecklich zu lesen!

Mir ist klar, dass ein "play" in erster Linie nicht geschrieben wird, um es zu lesen, doch immerhin kann man dies als Buch kaufen, ergo: GRAUENHAFTE IDEE

Die Menschen aus Clapton Square sind oberflächliche Snobs, die von Nichts eine Ahnung haben und vor allem keinerlei Empathie besitzen. Sie helfen Siva nur, weil sie davon Publicity und Anerkennung von den Medien bekommen - Zivilcourage? Träum weiter!

Die Autorin Alecky Blythe spielt in dem Stück mit, weil sie schließlich diejenige ist, die die Fragen stellt und die Konversationen aufnimmt - und das so eine Person so unglaublich dämlich wie die Einwohner von Clapton Square ist, hätte ich niemals gedacht. Einfach nur peinlich.

Ich würde dem Stück nur einen halben Stern geben, denn 0,25 kommen daher, dass mir diejenigen von Pembury Estate leid tun und 0,25 daher, dass dieser merkwürdige MC Power derart schlecht gerappt hat, das es schon wieder lustig war.

Wer würde sich sowas jemals freiwillig in seiner kostbaren Freizeit durchlesen?

Ich trauere meinem Geld hinterher... 🥲

I had been wanting to read more verbatim theatre, and i felt that, for me, Alecky Blythe was a good author to start with. I thought that the text was interesting and genuinely quite informative about the riots, as someone who was not old enough to know about them when they where actively happening.

For me, what makes verbatim theatre interesting is the fact that it is from real people, that being said, I think that making the play focused on the people in Clapton square was something I could not get behind. As much as I am happy that they were able to help one person, reading it felt as though it was just a way for these middle class people to look good to the journalists they were surrounding themselves with. I ended up being more interested in the bits with people from the Pembury estate, and what was affecting them.

With that being said, I do genuinely thing that this would be a good play for people to read if they are wanting a first piece of verbatim theatre to read.

great verbatim play on class apartheid and police brutality in the uk, set around the london riots in 2011

i found blythe's verbatim practice very radical, never would i have thought to record real voices and use it as substance for a play! to have access to the original voice with its unique accent, cadence, pace and emotion is so valuable. wish i could have seen this live!
