For the 2nd Book in the Vampire @ Blackthorn Manor series, Charlotte finds herself kidnapped by the High Council of vampires. Their plans include using her Guardian magic-enhanced blood to control an evil force known as the devourers that dwell beneath the Manor. The High Council allows a resident demon named Malphas who has a propensity towards pleasuring others to “play” with Charlotte. He claims that he gets his power when others exhibit heightened emotions. He warns her that she will crave him. While Malphas plays with her, Charlotte uses her strong will to focus on what she can control such as strengthening her connection to the Manor and on searching for cracks in her magic-binding cuffs. On the same night that the High Council holds their masquerade ball, the black witch Victoria finally “awakens” and is furious that the vamps have taken Charlotte from her. Adrian rescues Charlotte and returns her to the Manor. The book ends with a long lost relative of Adrian’s showing up at their front door. I really hated how the character Malphas basically took advantage of Charlotte! I can only imagine what Adrian is going to say when he learns just what Malphas has done with his woman!!! For more details, get your own copy of Book 2 today!!! I can't wait to dive into Book 3!!!

What an exciting follow-up to the series that I was eager to read too! The story picks up after Charlotte, the female protagonist, is captured and taken by the vampire High Council. There are a few things that are hard to imagine, yet still the imagery and unimaginable horror are easy to visualize. She is physically/mentally tortured with non-consensual sex and removal of blood, so if some of this is a trigger for you, then stay away from this tale. I wanted to find out what would happen to the humans that are captured. They kind of drop out of the story and would Charlotte, considering all her transitions going on, be able to escape with her indomitable will be able to withstand everything they put her through? Would Adrian still love her with everything that happened? These questions plagued me, and I am glad I stuck with the story. Unfortunately, since this is a continuation, it’s difficult to skip this book, because you risk getting lost. So yes, on to the next in the series!

I love strong women characters and strong male characters that can partner with them. I love storylines that are consume all my attention. This book is that type of book. I definitely got lost in the storyline. This book focuses on survival, and transformation. It focuses on a love that can survive supernatural events and horrors. Charlotte is a very strong woman who embraced her abuse by focusing on her strengths that connected her to the manor and Adrian. This book is very action packed with a roller coaster of emotional events. Throughout this storyline Charlotte evolves and thrives by accepting the challenges she faces. Jade Christy does a great job building the storyline and all the characters. I would give both more than 5 stars if possible.

It’s difficult to review the second book in the four book saga simply because I don’t want to give anything away. But I can say that I really enjoyed the book and liked seeing the ways in which Charlotte, Adrian and the other characters grew. Charlotte continues to learn more about the manor and her powers continue to grow. And so does her relationship with Adrian. That man, er, vampire, is seriously swoony! New threats have emerged in the struggle to contain the entity hidden beneath Blackthorn Manor and Charlotte, Adrian and the others are racing to find ways to defeat them. It was an engrossing story and was filled with new revelations and new alliances. I definitely recommend this book.

No trigger warnings and there definitely should have been!

WARNING: Explicit scenes of rape and torture at the beginning chapters of the novel.

I'm giving this novel a 3-star rating due to the absence of trigger warnings.

The story was interesting, and I already liked the main characters, although Adrian (main male character) didn't appear much in this novel.

There were some technical errors, bad edits, and internal inconsistencies. The narrative voice was sometimes too simplistic, in my opinion.

It's probably worth a read, but please be aware of my warnings before you begin.

Experiments and Shadows of the Mind

Picking up right from the last book, Charlotte finds herself held captive. The High Council, The Black Witch, and Devourer's aren't the only threats to what's at stake. So much is going on in this story that I was on the edge of my seat as changes in power dynamics begin to shift in such exciting ways. I could not get enough of this book and can't wait until the next one.

It gets more interesting. Now we learn about what the Vampire High Council's real agenda is. They kidnap Charlotte and take her blood to do experiments with. They soon learn that turns out to be a failure. They let the demon Malphas use her as well. When Victoria learns what the High Counci did, she goes after them with a vengeance. Now we know what some want to do with the Devourers, and it is not good. Can't wait to see who comes into play next.

If you thought book number 1 in this series was AMAZING to read just you wait and see how brilliant book number 2 is written. I have recently come to really like reading vampire paranormal romance books and Jade sure knows how to write the perfect book. I suggest if you are looking to broaden your reading tropes you give this series a try because it has been a fantastic ride so far.

Charlotte manages to survive her kidnapping and torture, she found real strength in her connection to Adrian. She is fierce and finding her way. This story is best read after book one, to truly understand everything. I Loved Charlotte's strength! Good Story! No spoilers! I Recommend!.

There was a major missed opportunity for fantastic smut. The author did not exactly fade to black during the demon and the fmc's sexy time but she glossed over it in a way that made it underwhelming and vanilla.
I started skipping through paragraphs because they were unnecessary and repetitive - I don't plan on continuing the series.

Another good read

Just when I thought I had a grip on how I thought it would play out and boom it going up in smoke. This is a very interesting read, the cliffhanger has me running to KU to snag what’s next. I love the pairing of Adrian and Charlotte, I want to see how their relationship will grow

This second book doesn’t really bring more emotional depth to the characters, though told from multiple POV. The FMC’s torture seems downplayed even though it’s the only type of spice in this book. I’m going to keep reading because the storyline is interesting and promises more secrets revealed.

I’m really enjoying this series so far. The characters are really interesting and diverse, and the devourers are the mystery that keeps the story going. I’m so looking forward to reading the next book.

Great story line, good flow, really liked this book. But the switch from first to third POV makes it feel odd to me. Well worth it! I love Charlotte and Adrian. Fast paced. Great story evolution!

Interesting plotline. Enjoyable and intriguing characters.
Number of books in the series appropriate; not overly long.
The sexual verbiage definitely not needed!!
